Hey! Long time no talk! This is Rosalynn aka Rose aka Rosecat. I'm the artist behind all of Ocean Renaissance's posters, characters, world building, et cetera. I'm also the one and only social media/communications manager, or whatever my title was. You may recognize me as the obnoxiously pink lo**ta catgirl that would flounce around other events, as well.
As everyone knows, Ocean Renaissance was supposed to happen this weekend, and it fell through. I'm sorry that my dad and I haven't said anything sooner, but it was incredibly difficult for us to deliver this news to everyone. Ocean Renaissance is, currently, CANCELLED, in it's current form, for the forseeable future.
In all reality, Ocean Renaissance was a massive project that was ran primarily by only 2 people, maybe 3 or 4 in it's absolute height. Ironically to it's message, it was largely unsustainable. A lot of that stress piled onto me, who was a child and/or teenager during it's entire run, and my dad, of course, who's getting too old for that kind of nonsense. It had a lot of financial struggles, and just managed to break even (or not even) most years, not allowing for much to actually make it back to the non-profits that we wanted to help. (of course, I had devised a plan to fix that this year, but c'est la vie.)
WHAT NOW?: It's over! But, like anything else, it's ending has given my dad and I more free-time to do other things we enjoy. I'm still going to go out & vend my artwork at events (though probably not the ones that we usually promoted at, at least for a year or two, as this whole thing has made this scene overly sour for me). If you were one of the few people who actually cared about the Art of Ocean Renaissance, here's my linktree, go find me somewhere else: https://linktr.ee/rosecatuwu . I have a YouTube channel, I have commissions you can buy, I have a Bluesky and a Tumblr. I refuse to continue to post my work to anything owned by Meta because of the major AI boom and overall air of disrespect that these platforms have for it's userbase, so this post is probably the last you'll hear from me on here. (you can still contact me on messenger if you've previously contacted me there before, to make myself clear.)
WILL IT RETURN: I don't know, maybe! If it does return in any way, it will most definitely be through the personal projects that I never got to fulfill during it's actual run, as in, worldbuilding and comics from the artistic side of things that never got off the ground. If there is enough interest, I'd like to run much smaller fairy events closer to home, and I want to continue to make art that focuses on the things that matter most to me (LGBTQ rights, environmentalism & sustainability, mythology & fantasy, and being as weird and subcultural and counter-culture as I want.)
If you've made it this far, thank you, as always, for being a supporter of Ocean Renaissance. Even with all of it's problems & shortcomings, it made me so happy every year to see the beautiful community we built, the artists & craftsmen & entertainers that we supported. Ocean Renaissance was not just the building, or the date, or even my artwork. Ocean Renaissance, was, largely, the people that were apart of it, and I hope that all of you get to move on to bigger & better things and continue the community that Ocean Ren created, in a different time & a different place.
For anyone who wants them, here are the links to some photos of Ocean Renaissance: https://mega.nz/folder/N3BjwYzA
I could find all of them except for, upsettingly, the ones from 2025. I've contacted the original photographer (Rob Wayne) and hopefully i can get them back and put them in there with the rest of them.
Again, thank you so much to anyone who's stuck around these last 5 years. You're what all of this was really about and you're the ones who kept it alive for as long as it was. We hope you all had a great time.
