On this date in 1811, Hungarian composer, virtuoso pianist, conductor and teacher Franz Liszt was born. Not only did Liszt compose twelve symphonic poems, two completed piano concerti, several sacred choral works, and many solo piano pieces, but he also pioneered the concept of the master class, in which he would instruct each pupil while the rest of the class observed.
