To celebrate the next phase of construction at the Ocala Skate Park (,📍 517 NE 9th St) occurring in 2024, why not visit “All Hands on Deck” mural by Cosby Hayes ()?

Tallahassee-based artist, Hayes and his partner Sarah Painter painted this skate park underpass mural in 2020 after approval from City Council and the Ocala Municipal Arts Commission (OMAC). The concept for the mural features a repeating pattern of multi-colored skateboard trucks. “The mural utilizes the full canvas and explores the relationship between the view and the subject matter. By painting the skateboard trucks much larger than life, an interesting visual contrast is created,” said Hayes.

Check out a local favorite, "Cinnabar" by James R. Futral located in front of the Discovery Center (). “Cinnabar” first came to Ocala as one of the ten sculptures selected in the 202-2021 Ocala Outdoor Sculpture Competition. This sculpture became part of our permanent collection after the competition thanks to an anonymous donor.

“Cinnabar,” like most of Futral’s sculptures, is fabricated in part with recycled materials like scrap metal. Futral is mindful about sustainability in his art practice. He works hard to ensure his creations reuse materials resulting in reduction of overall waste and maintain a better balance with nature.

Have you noticed the lovely palm mural on the city transformer on the historic Ocala downtown square? It’s located directly opposite the Hilton Hotel.

This acrylic mural was painted by artist Carlynne Hershberger in 2017. The Corten steel fencing surrounding the transformer was fabricated by Mike Zeak. This artistic collaboration altered a utilitarian object like a transformer into a beautiful, engaging work of art while maintaining it’s functionality!

Check it out the next time you stop by the downtown square!
