Realism has been something I’ve wanted to achieve since the beginning of my tattoo career. The way the shadows align and the pure-raw emotion it captivates has always drawn me towards it.
However, I was always told, “no that’s too hard for your level as a tattooist” or “it’s a different type of tattooing, stick to fineline and anime for now”.
And while that can seem discouraging, I have always been a very stubborn and persistent woman.
So, as any sane artist would do, I ignored the side comments and focused. And I spent many hours dedicated to my craft.
Practicing on paper, asking questions no matter if I felt stupid for asking them, watching others tattoo realism on youtube and in person, tattooing on fake skin in private, tattooing free tattoos on my friends, listening to hard critiques, and above all else: never giving up. Because nobody can tell you what is and isn’t possible.
So how ironic and wonderful is it that my first fully paid realism piece was Jesus himself? And on a client and friend that has been with me since my apprenticeship. I really want to thank you, Andres Garcia | Pop Culture Artist for always supporting and believing in me. Not just today with this piece, but even when I messed up tattoos on your arm in my apprenticeship. To Hito | Anime Tattoo Artist who pushed me to ignore the bad comments and keep learning and trying as I learned realism. And to my amazing coworkers ❄️ Chelsea Winter Burr ❄️ Florida Tattoo Artist and Randy Joffre for always giving me advice and never giving up on me. 🙇🏻♀️
I am able to show you my hard work up close and personal, and I am now able to finally open my books up to taking on more clients who enjoy this art style.
