The Ocala Calligraphy Guild always enjoys hosting a class with Carrie Imai. Students both on Zoom and in-person at the Chelsea Art Center enjoyed learning Ubiquitous Uncial with Carrie. Particularly fun was her unique variation called Funkcial and the final project making a card and a placecard. Thank you, Carrie!

Card templates provided. No art experience necessary.

Pastel Dusting Technique

Finally, you’ll learn to make a mobile or an accordion book with your sample pieces.

Join Us on Monday, September 21st to Kick Off SEASON 11!

Meetup and Program
11:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m.
Show Us Your Summer Projects!
with Member Participation

FREE and open to the public!

We look forward to seeing the lettering projects you worked on this summer. Show us a calligraphy project you’ve worked on over the summer (or a photo if you don’t have the original.) It can be big or small, finished or in progress, etc. This is a great opportunity to showcase the wide variety of creative talent we all possess, as well as a chance to exchange ideas and inspiration with the group. The more who share, the more we can all learn.

The September meetup, like all of our monthly meetups, will be a hybrid event, available both in-person at the Chelsea Art Center and online via Zoom. Members automatically receive an email with the Zoom link and supply list. Non-members can request the Zoom link by sending an email to [email protected].

For those local to the Ocala area, we hope you will join us in-person at Chelsea Art Center!

This week we celebrated the success of our 10th Season with our annual End-of-Season Celebration. We honored several board members stepping down from service positions, including Marjorie Bannish after three years as president. We held an induction ceremony for our 2026-27 board members, held a Show & Tell, and ended the Zoom portion with a raffle. We bid our Zoom friend farewell and proceeded with the potluck luncheon. A great way to close the season!

The basic Simple Roman (lowercase) letters enable students to develop good technique, pen angle control and the basic strokes of this lettering style. A good portion of this class will be learning the lowercase letters. With time permitting, a review of the Capitals may be part of this class.

The idea of monumental Roman capitals is intimidating to many calligraphers, but making and arranging small capitals on a page can help us to connect with the fun of lettering while focusing on some basic design principles.

Great for beginners and experienced letterers alike, this class will examine an excellent historical page of text capitals. We’ll also explore the use of small broad-edged and pointed pens in creating texture through the manipulation of letter spacing, color changes, and other design decisions.
