Who is a MEANIE . . . ELLEN or KATHY?
Kathy Griffin is in news for all the wrong reasons.
Amid this deluge of press coverage, I learned that Kathy once accused the affable Ellen Degeneres of having a “mean streak”.

ELLEN DEGENERES "mean"?
Her public persona is anything but vicious, but let us go deeper and look at Ellen’s handwriting for her true character. Hmmm . . . she tends to print not write which is typical of millennials but in Ellen’s age group it indicates privacy. One sample (I assume she wrote earlier in her career) indicates she is trusting to the point of gullibility, hardly a mean trait. Her own signature in regards to other names and writing does not indicate superiority - - no mean there. Ellen, no surprise here, has determination in her writing as well as a protectiveness in keeping people at arms length until she knows them. That just sounds smart for a public figure. So my conclusion, from the albeit limited samples I viewed, I do nor believe Ellen is mean.
What about her accuser’s writing?
Kathy has created a public image of a catty mean girl, but I think it is simply a persona. Her signature shows that, like Ellen, she is determined and is not a quitter. She is not warm and fuzzy – her writing is sharp and angled. She probably interprets everything she hears and does not let information just pass over her. Surprisingly, she is sensitive and feels very hurt by her critics. She thinks big and aims high and would rather miss the target than not try. She is comfortable in her own company and does not easily trust. Does that make her mean? I don’t see it. She does carry resentment from events during the past decade – what they are I do not know - but resentment creates an edge in anyone. So let’s all put the mean away. Neither of these strong successful women display “meanness” in the writing samples which I reviewed.
