Recently I was asked what we charge to make a tshirt quilt. It all depends on the size. I charge for quilting and materials only. The quilt in this picture has 20 12x12” blocks, the quilt measures 60x60. We add borders which would make the final size maybe 65x65. Here is a break down of costs for this size quilt.
Quilting-$130
Stabilizer for back of cut tshirts- $60
Border fabric-$30
Backing(depends on the backing you choose-$100
Total: $320 approx
For a 65x65 quilt you will need around 25 shirts. Some tshirts have back and front designs, then you won’t need so many. Hope this helps you decide if making a truly custom quilt like a tshirt quilt is for you.

This is the second repair. Same grandma made this quilt. This one was tied on each corner of each 5” square. Took it apart, the back was not in good shape and very worn out. I replaced maybe 15 blocks, all three boarders, and the back and batting. The quilting is a diagonal straight stitch. Then I soaked it in the tub with a mild cleaner, don’t twist it to rinse it out, use a towel and push the water out. Lay flat to dry. It turned out awesome.

Two “repairs”. #1 The Dresden quilt, was made for my client by her grandma. I would say around 1970 ish. The background fabric (offwhite) was worn out along with many of the pieces on the Dresden. I removed each Dresden, rebuilt them and appliquéd it on a new background. Then added the three borders she had added. This is why I have a vintage fabric box… the back was in good shape, I replaced the batting with 100% cotton and quilted it with a star pattern. Loved doing this. It took me around 4 mths to finish.
