Movie Nights On Park Blvd Plaza

Movie Nights On Park Blvd Plaza We are a team of East Lake neighbors that believes in the power of movies and music in the outdoors to bring people together, build community, and have fun!

We started projecting movies on the facade of the old Parkway Theater to keep the community engaged in the present and future of this unique space. 5 years later, during the pandemic, we continue the project in a new form in the Park Blvd Plaza Park.

Thank you to our Neighborg Jason Zemlyn who is organizing this gofundme to make the next and last community movie night of 2020 happen!

We would be projecting Tim Burton's amazing claymation film Co**se Bride. And we are lucky Medicine Ball Trio will be performing before the movie starts.

Bring you own popcorn. Customs are welcome. Masks are a must. Plus, you will feel you are dressed up like a superhero just by wearing a mask.

Here is the gofundme link:

Hope you can join us, and contribute to the production if you can.

And everybody is welcome!

We are back for a social distancing movie night! this Saturday, August 22! We believe personally and as a community that in these challenging times, we need to find and share joy if we can do it safely. We invite you to an evening of music and film in the Park Blvd Plaza, the grassy area in the intersection of Park Blvd and E 21st Street. We will draw circles in the grass far apart from each other and will, of course, require masks. Having distanced circles for individuals or small groups would give people some room to safely take their masks momentarily, but masks are to be used anytime you step away from your circle. The event is free and BYOP (Bring Your Own Popcorn). There will be music and dance performances start at 7 pm. Movie will start at dark around 8:45 pm.

It’s been a long time since we organized a movie night (6 years!) We, the volunteers, have been busy during these past years, but now we are ready to resume this project in a new form. We still have some remaining funds from the Emerging Festivals and Community Events Grant, that we received from the City of Oakland in 2014, and while the weather is warm, we will use the funds to create a safe space to share music and movies.

If you have questions or want to volunteer, send us a comment or message us.

We have received a lot of inquires about what has happened to movie nights. The organizing team has had a collectively very busy year (babies, trips, business, etc.,) but we are pulling together to do a last screening for 2015, next Friday October 16. This will be the curtain call for the movie nights in front of the old Parkway. The movie nights will possibly move next year to a less challenging location; for example, some neighbors have suggested moving the event to the E 20th st & Park Blvd cul-de-sac ( where trybe is located, and also the former Lotus Bloom location.) We would love to hear any ideas or talk to neighbors that want to help to carry on this community project that provides free and family friendly entertainment.

And the movie is: The Nightmare Before Christmas!

Hope you can join us!

We are ready for our closing movie night, which this time will be a homage to Robin Williams. Please join us for the screening of "The Dead Poets Society".
We thank all the neighbors that send their suggestions, via facebook and email, for the Robin Williams' movie to project on September 26.
The evening will start with The Winmill Project live music performance. Also, be prepared to do your vegetable shopping at the Happy Acres pop up stand.
As always, there will be free popcorn!

Getting ready for our closing movie night for this year! FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 26.
We want our last screening to be a tribute to Robin Williams. As we announced at our last event, we will be taking suggestions via facebook for the Robin Williams we will be projecting. Vote for your favorite movie from this amazing actor.
Thank you to all of you that had already sent us suggestions,
and here is a picture of the last event!
