Power in community.
Power in culture being passed from one generation to the next. ✨

On May 3, young dancers from across the SF Bay Area stepped into that power through dance, drumming, storytelling, and connection. From West African to Afro-Brazilian, LA Groove to Praise Dance, every class carried something deeper than choreography.

These photos hold just a small glimpse of what filled the room all day long joy, pride, discipline, sisterhood, legacy, and love.

Thank you to every family, teaching artist, drummer, volunteer, and young person who helped make this year’s Bay Area Youth Pan-African Dance Conference so special. Oakland showed up beautifully. 💛

It’s going to be a full day of learning, culture, and connection for our dancers and a beautiful space for families to gather, support, and celebrate together.

Families can make a full day of it in West Oakland on May 3!

While the Bay Area Youth Pan-African Dance Conference is happening inside BANDALOOP Studios, the West Oakland Farmers Market will also be taking place right outside from 10 AM–2 PM.

Parents can grab coffee from the Parents Lounge, shop local vendors, enjoy and , and explore all that the neighborhood has to offer without having to go far. It is the perfect way to spend a Sunday supporting local businesses, connecting with community, and celebrating culture all in one place. ✨

The 14th Annual A Taste of Africa Festival is coming to Downtown Livermore on Saturday, October 3, 2026.

We are honored to welcome Storm DeBarge () to the Spring Bay Area Youth Pan-African Dance Conference on Sunday, May 3.

Storm is a celebrated dancer, choreographer, creative director, and educator whose work has taken her across the country and around the world. She has worked with some of the biggest names in entertainment including Kendrick Lamar, Megan Thee Stallion, Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Taraji P. Henson, Ty Dolla $ign, YG, Mustard, and 310Babiii.

She has choreographed major performances including the 2022 Super Bowl Halftime Show, BET Awards performances, Rolling Loud, Jimmy Kimmel Live, and New York Fashion Week, while also partnering with brands like Nike, Red Bull, Good American, Liquid I.V., and Thread Beauty.

Beyond the stage, Storm is passionate about pouring into the next generation through mentorship, education, and her work supporting young dancers in underserved communities.

We are so excited for our dancers to experience her class, her story, and the joy, confidence, and energy she brings into every room.

Every registration that comes through makes me smile a little bigger. 😁

We are officially just 3 weeks away from the Spring Bay Area Youth Pan-African Dance Conference and I am so excited for what is ahead.

On May 3, dancers from across the Bay Area will come together for a full day of culture, confidence, community, and joy. From West African dance and Afro-Brazilian to praise dance, Clowinin’, and more, this is going to be such a special day.

If you have been thinking about signing your dancer up, now is the time. Space is limited and classes are continuing to fill.

We are so excited to welcome Olutola Afolayan () to the Spring Bay Area Youth Pan-African Dance Conference on Sunday, May 3.

Olutola is a dancer, educator, and founder of The Belonging Arc whose work is rooted in connection, healing, culture, and community. With more than 15 years of experience performing with companies including Jahoui, LIA, Fua Dia Congo (), Dana Lawton Dances (), and Diamano Coura (), she brings both incredible artistry and a deeply thoughtful approach to her work.

Her class, Afro-Lyrical, invites students to breathe, dance, connect, and feel fully present in their bodies. Through contemporary movement and African Diasporic traditions, students will experience a class that is joyful, grounding, and deeply meaningful.

We cannot wait for our dancers to learn from Olutola and experience the care, wisdom, and beautiful energy she brings into every room.
