We had a FULL HOUSE 🙌🏾

Last Friday, over 150 leaders packed Oakstop for one morning of coffee, conversation, and the future of nonprofit leadership.

People who’d never met started trading ideas. Someone’s problem became someone else’s offer to help. We call those moments collisions, and they’re why we convene community.

We used the morning to announce the Collision Engine, our AI tool that surfaces real collaboration opportunities across the 1,200+ organizations in our ecosystem. The AI tool enhances how we connect, and human connection is still what drives the impact.

One idea kept surfacing: nonprofits and changemakers have a window right now to shape how this technology develops, not just adopt what’s handed to us.

Thank you to everyone who shared the mic and the moment.

📌 2 FREE months of Oakstop membership for anyone who joined the event. Offer ends Friday, Aug 7. Comment below for the signup link.

📸 OPENING RECEPTION: Friday, August 7 | 6:00–9:00PM

Join us for the opening of ‘Reach the World, But Touch the Town First,’ the Oakland presentation of Deep East Oakland documentarian Brittani Sensabaugh.

First shown at Richard Beavers Gallery (Richard Beavers Gallery) in Brooklyn (2023), this traveling exhibition uses photography to overturn worn narratives and reveal the spirit, beauty, and humanity of melanated communities.

At its root, the work asks what it means to be held by a community. Moving through familial connection, collective memory, and inherited histories, Brittsense invites us to reconsider how we remember, what we forget, and what it means to belong.

On view at Oakstop August 7–November 21, 2026, with community programs and public events to come.

Oakstop was full of East Bay nonprofit leaders this spring for OpenAI Academy’s AI Foundations for East Bay Nonprofits, co-hosted with OpenAI and TechSoup. A few hours, hands on the tools: grant writing, content, custom GPTs, everyday operations.

We’re keeping it going with a full house this Friday, July 31st!

Oakstop is partnering with causevox, Winspire! and TechSoup for the Bay Area Nonprofit Breakfast Club. Coffee, breakfast, real conversation about what’s working with AI in nonprofits right now, and demonstrations of new tools by local entrepreneurs that can benefit nonprofits.

This is what Oakstop is for. When the tools shaping the next decade come to Oakland, they should land in a space owned by and accountable to our community.

🚨NEW EXHIBIT ALERT!!

Join us this First Friday, July 3 from 6:00p-8:30p for a preview of the upcoming exhibition Reach The World, But Touch The Town First, from Oakland based Photographer Brittani Sensabaugh at Oakstop Gallery (1721 Broadway Ave, Oakland CA).

Over the last two days, Brittsense was invited to participate in the Moleskine Foundation’s (Moleskine Foundation) international Creative Pioneers gathering, a global convening that brought together artists, cultural organizers, activists, and creative leaders from around the world to explore creativity as a tool for social change.

During the gathering, Brittsense had the opportunity to share the philosophy of “Spirit Shooting” and the broader vision of her work as a photographer. The conversation sparked enough interest that the Moleskine Foundation team decided to include Reach the World, But Touch the Town First as part of their Oakland itinerary before departing for Milan.

This created a meaningful opportunity for Brittsense to begin sharing networks and creating relationships between Oakstop and an international community of artists, cultural leaders, and social innovators connected through the Moleskine Foundation.

BIG thank you to Brittsense for creating space for those worlds to meet and experience one another’s work firsthand.

We hope to see you at the show! ✊🏾🎨

in Oakland!!

The Human Beatbox stoped by before his show at tonight.

Thanks for the wise words on real estate, art, health, and knowing when to say no. “The best deal I ever did, was the best deal I never did.”

Sometimes the best opportunity is simply the opportunity to say no.

The World Cup is almost here! ⚽️🌍

From hosting free match screenings at Raimondi Park to ’s watch party for USA vs. Australia at the Oakland Marriott City Center on June 19, the energy is landing right here in Oakland. $630M in projected economic impact flowing through Bay Area communities.

This is what it looks like when major events are done right. Small businesses don’t just watch. They build, they benefit, they belong.

Earlier this year, we saw that vision up close. In partnership with and , Oakstop collaborated with , , , , and many more Source member organizations to produce the Super Bowl LX Source Culmination party. 20+ local BIPOC event vendors. One space. One community.

Oakland is a sports town. Here’s to the next event!

6 years ago today, a daughter lost her father.

Gianna Floyd was 6. Her father was 46.

6 months of mobilizing communities. $66B in corporate pledges. $16B in philanthropic pledges. 26 million black squares posted to Instagram.

6 months later, some pledges turned into programs. Some people simply moved on.

But a daughter doesn’t move on. She grows up. She grieves. She dreams of becoming a doctor. She dreams of building a community center. She remembers her father.

Today is Memorial Day. We remember Gianna’s father, but we also remember Gianna’s dream.

Oakland lost 60% of its Black population share to displacement over the last 46 years. We grieved. We dreamed of building a community center. We built Oakstop.

Community centers are how we remember. They are where legacy lives, where dreams grow, where the people we’ve lost are remembered.

Today we remember Gianna. We remember those we’ve lost. And we remember our undying commitment to community.

Happy 101st Birthday, Malcolm X!

His words still have the power to make us smile.

His message challenged Black communities to see our spending, our institutions, our businesses, and our neighborhoods as tools for self-determination. Not just access to existing systems, but the ability to pool our resources, build our own institutions, and direct the systems that shape our lives.

At Oakstop, we carry this work forward by creating space for Black entrepreneurs, artists, nonprofits, small businesses, and community leaders to gather, build, organize, and grow.

When our community pools its resources and controls space, we create more than opportunity. We create permanence, ownership, and power.

Happy Birthday, Malcolm! ✊🏾

Oakstop had the honor of hosting for their 2026 Annual Event, From Vision to Ownership, at our 2323 Broadway location for the second year in a row. 🌍✨

The evening brought together community members, investors, and changemakers around one idea: ownership matters.

Oakstop is on its own journey toward a cooperatively owned model, and having Community Vision as a member (with 3 private offices), a capital partner, and a longtime ally makes that path feel more possible.

The event featured stories from and , an art activation by , and a powerful performance by .

Watching Community Vision fill this space with their community was something truly special.

Congrats to the team on 39 years of impact. 🙌🏾
