OakTown Hall

OakTown Hall OakTown Hall is a project development center and a gallery for the salvage arts. More to come on this as it develops folks!

The structure, OakTown Hall has been sold and we have left American Steel Studios. At it's heart, Oakland is a town...in it's origins and its history. Our aim is to promote OakTown as we build a truly localized future with the remains of the past.

Hey folks...big art ain't always the best way to try and make ends meet. These guys pulled off some incredible magic this year but are finding themselves in the hole. Please consider lending them some support to recover their financial losses!

From Max Poynton of the Lighthouse crew:

"Hey folks, we did something amazing out there but it left us in a bit of a whole. Please consider donating to our gofundme. Help us move on to the next big thing!"

Did you go to Burning Man this year? Did the Lighthouses blow your mind?! Of course, they did! But guess what? They blew our minds... and our wallets. We were genuinely excited to finally get to see this important piece of documentation about life here in West Oakland. Amir Soltani has been giving his whole heart and his whole life and resources to bringing this story to the screen and after watching it, it really does ring authentic and true about the streets outside our doors and the lives being lived there. It helped me to see better, the realities and inner lives of the homeless recyclers and it has me wondering, now that Alliance Metals is closing, what will become of the folks who base their survival and their existences on the trash they clean up from our streets.

You can watch this film currently airing on PBS here, online by clicking the link below.

Watch Dogtown Redemption full film. Four recyclers struggle to survive in a neighborhood already decimated by unemployment, addiction, and violence.
