This Saturday from 3–5pm, Margit Galanter (.grove) and I will be hosting Experiments in the Feels at Seven Mirrors (.mirrors).

Experiments in the Feels is a way to explore unexplored states of mind by tapping into intuition, sensation, and imagination. This session is the first in a series unfolding over the coming months, and we would love your participation.

In the spirit of true experimentation, this First Experiment will be open-ended and lightly structured, giving us room to play, discover, and follow what arises.

This work emerges as a response to the moment we’re living in. Our communities are coming under siege by fascist forces. And yet, alongside this, we’re also witnessing our resistance, our resilience, and movements that fight for the world we want, not only against the one we fear. We want to take part in imagining and building that new world.

Doing that requires stepping outside the conditioning that shapes how we think, feel, and respond. For us, returning to art - its unruliness, its permission, its ability to break form, is a way to undo and remake ourselves through feeling, intuition, and imagination.

Tomorrow, Friday June 20th, Seven Mirrors (.mirrors) and the rest of .oakland community will be having its Summer Stroll street festival from 4-8pm. This will be a special time to view La Compostura, Gabriel Vallecillo Márquez’s (@)esegabbo) installation and VR experience.

I’m excited to announce that Seven Mirrors, the art space that I run in downtown Oakland, is presenting an artist talk featuring Diana Lara & Gabriel Vallecillo Márquez to celebrate Gabriel’s installation of La Compostura: the healing of the body, and his contribution to Yelkaram: Weaving the Ancestral Body, Lara’s (.lara.somatics) work scheduled to be performed at .

Yelkaram: Weaving the Ancestral Body is a dance and video-mapping performance by Lara in collaboration with Gabriel () and Isadora Paz (). Yelkaram focuses on Honduran indigenous Lenca weaving traditions and nature protection rituals.

Please arrive between noon and 4:30pm on Saturday before the talk to experience La Compostura, a VR experience that will bring you into a Lenca ritual.

We are excited to have Peach Kander as one of our poets reading this Saturday March 22nd 4-6 pm as part of “Acknowledge the Shadows”

Peach Kander (they/them) is a q***r poet and dioramist. They hold an MFA from NYU and are currently in the ensemble of Opera Lab Berlin as a writer/collaborator.They were the poetry editor at Pigeon Pages and Washington Square Review, and were a recipient of a City Artist Corps Grant from New York Foundation for the Arts and a residency from Art Farm Nebraska. Their chapbook MAGIC BOX is out now from Ursus Americanus Press. Their writing has appeared in We Want It All: An Anthology of Radical Trans Poetics (Nightboat Books), as well as various online and print journals. Other creative property can be found in the Sephora archives.
