Opening Tonight | Yvonne Mouser | Interstice

Saturday, September 6, 5-7pm

Municipal Bonds
1275 Minnesota St
San Francisco, CA

Interstice, an exhibition of thresholds—sites where one state slips into another, where structures express moments of change. The works—cabinet, bench, table, and stools—retain their function even as they operate as sculpture, reflecting engagement with material and process, and attunement to the elemental forces that shape them.

Multiplied Mesh started with the idea of generation loss, where copies of copies incrementally decrease in quality. Using sand, I formed molds of an offset grid and allowed the castings to become less precise, and as material in the mold falls away, more metal fills in. The cast tiles are then combined into one large square, where the grid gives a sense order while also capturing a process of entropy.

On view now in the exhibition Invisible Forces Find it in the little side room.

[Workss in Progress] is a dialogue, teasing apart the question - what is contemporary Bay Area Design? Each exhibited studio envisions furniture as a central arm of their practice, whether it is through the lens of craft-based expression, interior design, or product design. When the works are viewed in adjacency, they create a beautiful conversation around community, sensibility, and the Earth. Curated and presented by the talented .hands.co and

Exited for this show curated by, and full of my talented peers.

Join us in Dogpatch, CA for [Works In Progress], open to the public on Jan 18-23. Opening event on Jan 20, at 5-8pm.

Archive, celebration, and dialogue are necessary pillars for a thriving design community. Rarely do we get to come together and showcase the diversity of craft, personalities, and backgrounds that the San Francisco design community holds. Yet, ours is home to a prolific scene of designers who share a love of physical craft and object-making. As the creative scene evolves in real time, there are boundless possibilities for how it might bloom. For now, we are here to acknowledge its depth and say: it’s a work in progress.

[Works In Progress] brings together the contemporary furniture design community in the San Francisco Bay Area: a group of studios, artists, and designers crafting tangible companions for living. Across a range of materials, forms, and functions, the participants have found a groove in the original, the introspective, and the off-center.

[Works in Progress] is comprised of 12 contemporary furniture pieces collected together under one roof. By placing works of similar scale in adjacency, a dialogue unfolds. It weaves through subjects of material, form, approach, and attitude, while elucidating the distinct personality and ethos of each design practice. We invite you to take part in the conversation.

A little bit of nature gets framed in this Tree Planter Table for Gensler’s Oakland office. Soft rounded corners on an asymmetrical polygon top invite you to sit beneath the foliage. The central inserts both wrap the greenery and house easy access outlets. A matching coopered base anchors and conceals the plant container.
And for quick access to the floor outlet we added a cute little mouse door.

Looking forward to seeing the selected tree installed in their office soon.

Beyond the hay fields and barns on the ranch where I grew up, was a sweet little forest of post oak trees and briars that I loved to explore. Sometimes I would carve mini rivers in the dirt, build bridges with sticks and stack tiny stone fences. One of the most satisfying parts of creating these miniature landscapes was pulling up the bright green moss from the forest floor, and when it would peel up perfectly intact like a little living carpet. The bigger and brighter the better to lay in place as grassy hills to complete the scene.

These tactile memories of moss instigated learning a new skill, investing in tools, sourcing and exploring until landing on this collection of mat sized rugs. These cushiony little carpets can be used individually or pieced together to form one luxurious moss like spread across the floor.
