I attended a recent art talk and heard about a teacher telling a fellow artist, student and friend...

“You have to paint in oil to become a professional artist.”

That’s fu***ng bu****it!!

It she's looking to get students than that's her selling gimmick..

If you want to learn to paint in oil, then paint in oil. But that’s where it ends.

To become a professional in anything, you have to learn the craft through endless repetition—like a conveyor belt. A million brush strokes. A million guitar chords. A million attempts at whatever you’re trying to master.

But being a professional artist is more than mastering the medium.

Learn the business. Build a real following—not bots, not empty likes. Show up. Get involved. Build friendships, relationships, and connections. Learn how to talk about your work and how to sell it.

Oil paint doesn’t make you a professional artist.

Commitment to the craft, the business, and the people you build around your work does.
