💚 A little Facebook reminder! 💚
Sometimes Facebook doesn't show posts to everyone, even when businesses are tagged. With permission from the original poster, I wanted to share this wonderful review from another fiber-loving member of our local community.
It absolutely makes my day to see projects, bags, yarn, and finished creations finding their way into your crafting lives. 🧶
Thank you, Jessica Hatcher-Gill , for the kind words and for sharing your beautiful new project bag! I love seeing it already hard at work holding your afghan project and yarn. 😊
If you've purchased yarn, tools, project bags, or finished one of your creations with supplies from The Wooly Gorge, I'd love for you to share your photos and tag us. If Facebook decides not to show me the tag, feel free to send me a message too!
I never want to miss seeing what you're making!
Our fiber community is what makes this place special. Thank you all for supporting local and helping The Wooly Gorge grow. 💚🧶

I had a moment.

Running a small business can be overwhelming at times, and when you're the one carrying the weight of inventory, bills, classes, orders, and all the unknowns, it's easy to let doubt creep in. For a moment, I found myself focusing on the challenges instead of the blessings.

Then this community reminded me why I started The Wooly Gorge in the first place. & Why Southern West Virgnia is my Home.

The messages, comments, encouragement, visits to the shop, purchases, class registrations, project show-and-tells, and simple acts of kindness have meant more than you know.

As small business owners, we don't always get it right. We have hard days, we worry, and sometimes we question ourselves.

But today, I am choosing gratitude.

Thank you to everyone who has supported The Wooly Gorge. Whether you've bought yarn, attended a class, shared a post, recommended us to a friend, or simply cheered us on, you are part of this shop's story.

This little yarn shop is more than a business to me. It's a dream built with faith, hard work, and a love for our fiber arts community. Seeing so many people rally around us reminded me that we are not building it alone.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for showing up for small businesses. Thank you for showing up for The Wooly Gorge. ❤️🧶

Let’s talk about blocking ✨

Blocking is one of those finishing steps that can completely transform your crochet or knit project. It helps even out stitches, open up lacework, straighten edges, and give your piece a more polished, professional look.

So, what exactly is blocking?

Blocking is the process of gently shaping your finished project using moisture, pins, and time. Depending on the fiber and project, you may use wet blocking, steam blocking, or spray blocking.

Why block your work?

🧶 It helps stitches relax and settle
🧶 It can even out tension
🧶 It makes edges look cleaner
🧶 It opens up textured or lace patterns
🧶 It helps your finished item hold its intended shape

Not every project needs heavy blocking, but many pieces benefit from it — especially garments, shawls, granny squares, wall hangings, and lace designs.

A little reminder: always check your yarn label before applying heat or steam, especially with acrylic yarn. Different fibers respond differently, and a gentle approach is best.

Blocking may feel like an extra step, but it’s often the difference between “finished” and beautifully finished. 🤍
Check the photos below for before & afters. This isn’t a drastic difference on a swatch but on a finished garment it can be.
