Last week I nursed Griffi for the last time. I weaned him to one morning nurse and then none. I initially was going to wait til May and wean him slower but due to circumstances I had to have a hard stop. I knew it would be tough for him as nursing wasn’t just about food. It was comfort and safety as well. The first day was okay. The next night was terrible. Tugging at my shirt, trying to pull it up to nurse. Crying out of confusion on why I wouldn’t let him. I didn’t expect it to be so hard for me. I cried with him from guilt. I cried realizing that I won’t nurse him again. No lazy morning nurses or giving him pain relief when he gets hurts. I cried cuz I had to wean him on my schedule and not his. It’s almost been a week now and he is doing much better. We paused on weaning him off a bottle for now. I still get emotional thinking about it but I know he’ll be okay and that I can still give him all the cuddles in the world. Anyway here’s a drawing I did while reflecting on these thoughts.

Finished! It’s titled “Griffi’s curiosity”. It’s inspired by watching Griffi my 19 month old crawl around the house, getting into everything and being so excited even at a mundane object. He’s like a trail of bright light and curiosity ❤️
