September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, and Spark Movement Academy is proud to dance for a cure! 🎗️💛

Yesterday, our dancers helped present a check from the proceeds of the Gold Dust Preliminary Pageant—and the fight continues right here at Spark!

Lillian, one of our Spark dancers and an IDance4ACure Ambassador, will host our annual IDance4ACure event at Spark Movement Academy:

📅 October 10
⏰ 1:00–5:00 PM

Participants will dance nonstop while raising money to help fight childhood cancer. All proceeds from the event will be donated through IDance4ACure to support childhood cancer research.

Register, create your fundraising page, and invite friends and family to sponsor your dancing here:

https://www.wizathon.com/idance4acure-sma/?p=register

Together, we can turn our love of dance into hope for children and families affected by childhood cancer. 💛🎗️

🌟 LOCAL ARTIST SHOUTOUT — GO GENELIA! 🌟

We are so excited to cheer on local singer-songwriter Genelia as she takes the stage this Sunday at the Oak Harbor Music Festival Teen Talent Showcase! 🎤✨

📍 Island Thrift East Stage
🗓️ Sunday, September 6
⏰ 12:30 PM

Genelia is a talented 13-year-old singer-songwriter who is already writing and performing her own original music. This weekend she’ll be performing “Magnet” and “Trouble Like That” — and we can’t wait to see her shine on stage!

Spark has had the absolute pleasure of donating rehearsal space to Genelia and her backup dancers as they prepare for this performance. When we saw that this young local artist was looking for dancers, we were happy to help spread the word and even happier to open our doors so they had a place to rehearse. ❤️

Line Dancing w/ Gigi also jumped in to support Genelia, collaborating with her and her backup dancers on choreography for the performance. Seeing local artists, dancers, instructors and community members connect and create together is exactly what we love about having this space.

At Spark, sometimes our role is teaching the class. Sometimes it’s providing the room. And sometimes it’s simply connecting the right people with one another. That’s what community is all about. ❤️

Watching Genelia’s vision come together inside our studio has been incredibly special. We’re more than a dance studio and gym — we want Spark to be a place for creativity, collaboration, community and BIG dreams! ✨

Genelia is an up-and-coming local artist, and we have a feeling you’ll want to remember her name. ⭐

Come out Sunday and support this talented young lady as she performs her original music LIVE!

Genelia, the entire Spark family is cheering you on! Go shine, girl! 🎤🌟❤️

🎧 You can also find Genelia’s original music on Spotify, including “Sunshine” and “Pretty”:

✨ Master Class with Mary Lou Sanelli! ✨

This past Friday, we had the pleasure of welcoming Mary Lou Sanelli to Spark Movement Academy for a special master class!

Our dancers had such a great time learning from a new instructor, experiencing a different teaching style, and enjoying the energy and inspiration that comes from working with a guest artist. We loved seeing them step outside their regular classes, try something new, and have so much fun doing it! 💜

Mary Lou is not only a dancer, teacher, and choreographer—she’s also an author! 📚🩰 If your dancer loves to read, you may want to check out two of her dance-related books:

✨ Bella Likes to Try — Chatwin Books, 2022
✨ The Star Struck Dance Studio (of Yucca Springs): A Novel — Chatwin Books, 2019

A big thank you to Mary Lou for spending the evening with our dancers and sharing your knowledge and love of dance with Spark! We truly enjoyed having you! 💜✨

Her website in the comments if you’re interested in learning more about her and the books she has published!
