“ needs to be pushed because it is three simple words that mean everything. You’re saying, ‘I need to be the one to say hey, I need help.’ But also, be the one to say, ‘Hey, do you need help?’ Those three words cover everybody. We can all ask, and we all need help.”
TX Post 179 Legionnaire Jeysson Gomez has started monthly dinners and walks to bring awareness to mental health and promote the Legion’s veteran su***de prevention mission.

John Jacque of the Van Ells-Schanen American Legion Post 82 in Port Washington recently presented a $500 donation to Linda Wieck, founder of the incredible Camo Quilt Project.

What started over 10 years ago with a single camo quilt has grown into something truly extraordinary—more than 25,000 quilts delivered to active military members serving around the world. Each one is a symbol of comfort, gratitude, and connection to home.

These quilts have reached troops in:
Afghanistan, Egypt, Guantanamo Bay (Cuba), Iraq, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Oman, the Persian Gulf, South Korea, West Africa—and even locations the Department of Defense simply calls “undisclosed.”

It’s a reminder that even small acts of kindness can travel far—and mean everything to someone serving our country.

A reminder: From Nov. 10-16, we're asking members to make on members and former members who may need help. A simple phone call, text, email or visit can make a difference bigger than you know.
We’ve got a Toolkit to assist your efforts, including tips on organizing Buddy Checks, sample scripts for phone calls and quick answers to share the Legion’s missions and programs.
