Gearing up for the next big RydMedia release -- the first Matt Ryd album to ever be fully produced at/by RydMedia! All of the previous releases have been recorded here, but this is the first time that an entire album, top to bottom, was recorded/mixed/mastered at RMI. Having listened to these songs roughly 3 million times in the past week, I'm positive that you're all going to love them. :-)

Warning: opinion forthcoming. This is only an opinion. But if the main thing a studio advertises is how expensive its equipment is, you probably don't want to work there. Some of the best recordings I've heard have been on the cheapest possible gear. And I've heard plenty of stuff that has been tracked on "$10,000 worth of microphones and preamps!!!!111!!!one!1" that isn't worth giving a second listen.

Do I have some nice equipment? Sure. But these things are just tools. Means to an end. I could make just as great a recording using nothing but my very first condensor mic and the built-in plugins on ProTools. Having nice mics and plugins helps make things easier, sure, but it doesn't automatically make for a good recording.

End opinionated rant.

This is something of which I'm particularly proud. Morgan had a feed from the board, but it was the entire board mix in a stereo channel (i.e. everything was on a single track). The bass was way too low in the original audio. I had to use a whole bunch of tricks to isolate and raise the volume of the bass, while simultaneously making sure that Morgan's vocals popped and were showcased. It was a challenge I'd never faced before, but both Morgan and I were incredibly pleased with the results.
