Weather Update as of Friday, October 18, 2025, here is what we sent out to registered chalk artists, and to share with those who may potentially sign up.
Hi everyone,
We’re keeping a close eye on the weather using several sources—and, as expected, they’re all saying something a little different about the rain. Here’s our plan: if it’s not raining at 8 AM, the chalk contest is a go!
Even if it rains earlier in the morning, that’s okay—wet asphalt actually works great for chalk art. It helps the chalk stick better and makes the colors more vibrant. It’s like a little gift from nature!
A few chalk art tips:
You can grind up chalk and mix it with water to paint smooth, rich color onto the surface.
Or, lightly spray the pavement with water and chalk directly onto the damp area for a blended effect.
If it starts raining after we’ve begun—say around 11 AM—we’ll move everyone inside Art Gecko Studio. Judges will turn in their score sheets based on what they’ve seen up to that point, and we’ll announce the winners from the cozy, dry comfort of the studio.
Please check your email and social media starting at 7 AM for any updates. Until then, have fun creating—we can’t wait to see your work!
We’ll be set up on the corner of E. 1st Street and S. Vine Street, under the trees near Sweet Katie Bee’s. If the market decides to cancel due to weather, we’ll have to follow their lead.
See you out there, as you can see we are ready to award some chalk art winners.
