Listen to Bill Batson, incoming president of Friends of Mount Moor Cemetery, and host Clare Sheridan of the Historical Society of Rockland discuss our community's growing appreciation of this historic African American cemetery located at the Palisades Center Mall in West Nyack. Mount Moor was established in 1849 and contains approximately 90 known graves including veterans of the Civil War, Spanish-American War and World War I. During the mall's construction, the very existence of the cemetery was threatened. Ironically, the cemetery may now outlast the mall, which is near bankruptcy, unable to pay its mortgage. Thanks for the shout out to MEGAMALL, the documentary feature that covers the mall's early history.

Thanks to director Claudia Müller and producer Nick Norwood of the CSU's Carson McCullers Center for Writers and Musicians for the Rivertown Film premier of, Wunderkind: Carson McCullers. Her writing remains incredibly moving yet she often receives only a mention in discussions of Rockland's rich artistic heritage. Perhaps this is changing.
