Yes, he's housebroken, and he's great with kids and dogs. Time to meet another ruff member from the cast of Sylvia.

Bob Whitman (Tom) has not been able to stop barking about how excited he is to be returning to the North River stage. He previously appeared as Dale Harding in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest and Emmet in Remote. He has such admiration and respect for the talented cast and crew working on this show. Bob would like to express his heartfelt gratitude to his circle of people for their never-ending love and support, especially his amazing wife, Christy. And although he doesn’t currently have a dog, Bob has often been caught talking to his cats, Zoey and Valentin, as if they were his children.

A story about empty nesters, Greg and Kate, who move to Manhattan. Then, much to Kate’s chagrin, Greg brings home Sylvia, a stray dog from Central Park played by a human actress! Catch this hilarious comedy about a marriage pushed to the brink by the ultimate four-legged home wrecker.

Pawdon🐾the interruption, but it's time to meet another member of the Sylvia cast!

Julie Butler (Kate) is very happy to be making her premiere performance on the North River Theater stage! She grew up acting and singing from a very young age in the Midwest and received a bachelor’s degree in education and musical theater there. Upon relocating to Boston, Julie was first cast as Mary Curley in a Boston original production about the infamous mayor, The Life and Times of James Michael Curley, which played in Boston’s theater district for three years. Julie has also worked at the Lyric Theater, Public Theater, True Rep Theater, Hull Performing Arts and sang in bands throughout the years in and around Boston and the South Shore. Some of her favorite roles include Kathleen in Jim Sullivan’s Ellen’s Boys, which was performed in New York City last summer, Izzy in Rabbit Hole, Sheila in The Boy’s Next Door and Sister Augusta in Drinking Habits. Julie is forever grateful to her husband, Steven, and three beautiful children, whose love and support allow her to pursue these artistic endeavors. Julie thanks this wonderfully energetic cast and everyone for making her feel welcome at North River Theater. Hope you enjoy the show!

ACTORS WANTED!
For the second show of our centennial season, North River Theater is proud to present Over the River and Through the Woods by Joe DiPietro, directed by Sheila Kelleher.

Audition dates: Sunday, September 13th & Monday, September 14th, 7:00PM at North River Theater, 513 River St, Norwell, MA 02061.

Performance dates: November 20, 21, 22, 27, 28, 29.

Synopsis: Nick Cristano is a single young marketing professional in New York City, but his loving grandparents never let him forget where he belongs: in New Jersey. Nick goes to Hoboken, faithfully, every week for Sunday dinner. One Thursday he makes an unscheduled visit with a special announcement of a promotion that will uproot him. This upsets the grandparents and sends them on a scheme to change his mind. Over the River and Through the Woods is a warm-hearted, boisterously funny, and touching story about intergenerational relationships, deep familial love, and the inevitable little heartbreaks that occur as time passes and children grow.

Character List
• Nick Cristano, (male, 25-30) A single, Italian American marketing executive who visits his grandparents every Sunday.
• Frank Gianelli: Nick's grandfather, loud, a first-generation Italian immigrant, retired carpenter, who loves to argue.
• Aida Gianelli: Nick's devoted grandmother, who constantly feeds him and dotes on him.
• Nunzio Cristano: Nick's other grandfather, loud, retired Ford auto worker, who is opinionated and deeply attached to family.
• Emma Cristano: Nick's other grandmother, who worries endlessly and schemes to keep Nick close.
• Caitlin O'Hare: (female, 20’s) A nice, single Irish nurse-in-training neighbor invited by the grandparents to tempt Nick into staying.

Ted Lillys (Greg) Grateful to Laura Dunkum and North River Theater (NRT) for the opportunity to portray Greg alongside a very talented and hilarious cast. Recent productions include The Outsider earlier this year with The Bay Players (BP), A Perfect Arrangement at Bay Players in 2024 and at North River Theater (NRT) in 2025, The Weir (NRT, 2025), The Minutes (BP, 2025), and The Fantasticks (BP, 2022). I’m always grateful for community theater, and the love of my life, Julie. Please continue to support the arts in any form. But especially community theater! Woof! For Sofie 🐾

Sit... Stay... Good dog! Now let's meet the cast of "Sylvia".

Nikki Ready (Sylvia) got the zoomies over returning to the North River stage after playing Sister Mary Catherine in Drinking Habits last summer. She recently appeared as Tina Tocchio in Ellen’s Boys with True Repertory Theater and as Little Sally in the Concord Players production of Urinetown. Her other notable roles include Annie Twilloil in The Play That Goes Wrong, Niki Harris in Curtains, and Lady Macbeth in Macbeth. She also has had the honor of studying with Shakespeare & Company in Lenox this past January. Nikki is thankful for her family, friends, and mentors for their love and support. She also would like to give a shoutout to all the furry friends at home tonight, especially her dog, Belle, for inspiring her in this woof-tacular role and for being a girl’s best friend for eleven years.

This September, North River Theater embarks on its 100th season. A century of entertainment rooted in the heart of the South Shore.

Our Norwell home has a story. The building began as a one-room schoolhouse in 1865, and if you look closely at the floor today, you can still see the pattern of plugged holes that once marked the locations of student chairs and desks. In 1926, the community voted to grant the building to the Church Hill Improvement Association, which would eventually become North River Theater, Inc. The first event was held in 1927. For a hundred years, this beloved "Gem in the Woods" has been home to plays, musicals, dinners, and memories.

To celebrate this historic anniversary, we've decided to revive a few of our most popular shows. You won't want to miss any of these crowd favorites. Get the season pass and see all three at a discounted rate.
