Draw The Line salutes a true legend. Rest easy, Jack Douglas. 🙏🎸
We are Draw The Line — an Aerosmith tribute band officially endorsed by Aerosmith themselves — and today we celebrate one of the greatest architects of the music we love.
Jack Douglas passed away on May 11, 2026, at 80 years old. But what a life this man lived. We were lucky enough to call him a friend.
A working-class kid from the Bronx who loved The Beatles SO much that he literally stowed away on a ship to England — and got deported. He came back home, enrolled in the Institute of Audio Research, and talked his way into a job at the newly opened Record Plant studios… as a janitor.
From janitor to one of the most celebrated producers in rock history. That’s the Jack Douglas story.
He helped engineer John Lennon’s Imagine. He produced Lennon and Yoko Ono’s Double Fantasy — a Grammy Award winner. He stood beside Cheap Trick, Patti Smith, the New York Dolls, and so many others. And then there were four albums he made with a scrappy band from Boston that would change rock history forever: Get Your Wings, Toys in the Attic, Rocks, and — yes — Draw the Line. Over 40 gold and platinum records to his name.
Jack was so deeply embedded in Aerosmith’s world that he was often called “the sixth member of the band.” He even co-wrote “Kings and Queens.” The very name of our band is his fingerprint on rock and roll.
But Jack Douglas was more than music. Before any of this, he was a young folk singer writing songs for Robert F. Kennedy’s 1964 senatorial campaign — a man who used his art in the service of justice and believed that music and humanity were inseparable. That spirit ran through everything he did.
His family said he “lived a colorful life.” We’d call it an extraordinary one. An artist, a storyteller, a champion, a giant.
Jack — we play your albums every night because they’re simply the best rock records ever made. Tonight, we play them a little louder, for you.
