Easy access from I-95 or Metro North Railroad, convenient covered parking next door, warm and spacious with two on-site cafes, gift shop and a 4D Theater, the Aquarium is a most excellent family outing, date or solo visit! We are the only aquarium devoted to Long Island Sound, the “Estuary of National Significance” just outside our doors. As an arm of the Atlantic Ocean, the Sound is an environmen

t rich in aquatic life … even within sight of heavily urbanized New York City. The marine population we exhibit includes varieties of sharks, big and small, stingrays, harbor seals, sea turtles, game fish, jellies, crabs, lobsters, mollusks and more. We also exhibit tropical travelers that follow the Gulf Stream north to our waters. Plus we have some other fun animals, from tamarins to meerkats. We offer lots of touch experiences including stingrays, sharks, jellyfish and intertidal animals.

A fin-tastic time was had at Pride in the Park! The Aquarium is proud to stand alongside our community to celebrate Pride Month and support our wonderful partners at Triangle Community Center. Aquarium staff helped festival goers create personalized pins and shared the incredible facts about how nature is non-binary.

Just as biodiversity in our natural world leads to balanced and thriving ecosystems, we believe that the differences in our society should be celebrated. This month, and every month, the Aquarium champions love and the freedom of self-identity. We are a safe and welcoming space for all ❤️🧡💛💚🩵💙💜🩷🤎🖤🤍

Nature is non-binary! Our world’s ocean is teeming with all different kinds of aquatic life: it is a diverse, fluid, and uniquely inspiring place.

In a school of clownfish, there is only one mature breeding female and male pair. If the breeding female is removed from the group, her male partner will change his s*x to female, and the next largest male in the school will become the new breeding partner.

This morning, The Maritime Aquarium celebrated our newest exhibit, Seabirds Between Worlds — now home to Connecticut’s only puffins — opening on June 13!

The thoughtfully crafted exhibit invites guests to experience life in the North Atlantic. Observe Atlantic puffins and common murres’ natural behaviors above and below the water’s surface, all while being surrounded by detailed rockwork that mirrors the rugged coastal landscapes.

Thank you to Senator Bob Duff, Mayor Barbara Smyth, State Representatives Lucy Dathan and Dominique Johnson, and Clay Fowler, chair of the Aquarium’s trustees, for joining today’s celebration and for their unwavering support that continues to drive the Aquarium’s mission forward.

Waddle to the Aquarium to meet these special species! Seabirds Between Worlds is included with general admission. Get your tickets here: https://www.maritimeaquarium.org/tickets
