Spent an incredible 4 days working with students choreographing a new Flamenco piece last week!💃🏻

I’m so grateful for how welcoming, hardworking, and open everyone was throughout the process — it truly made the experience special. The energy, dedication, and willingness to dive into something new meant so much to me.

I can’t wait to see this piece come to life on stage! Thank you all for such a memorable time❤️

On April 16, join us at the Connecticut Museum with Kathak dancer Rachna Agrawal and Flamenco dancer Yohanna Escamilla, as they demonstrate and discuss their dance traditions during our next Common Ground event.

FREE and open to the public! Get tickets to reserve your spot: https://www.connecticutmuseum.org/event/commongrounddance/

Where do we find Common Ground? In this series, we bring together artists who practice art forms rooted in different cultural traditions to demonstrate their work, share with one another, and discuss their similarities and differences. Cultural heritage art forms create and reflect meaning, identity, and community, but we can become focused on cultural differences or assume that there is a universal artistic language. But what if we can dig into—and challenge—both perspectives?

This program is generously supported by the Auerbach Schiro Foundation.

We live in a world that asks us to perform perfection — to be liked, followed, approved.
Saturday night, I chose something different — to show up as my true self. Vulnerable. Authentic. Nervous.
And what I received in return was love, reciprocity, and the feeling of being truly seen.

My amazing Flamenco colleagues and , my dear friends, and our beautiful audience felt sacred — a moment where we were all connected.
I’m still holding that feeling today.💫

*Yo soy Yohanna*… Thank you for reminding me 🙏🏻💗

Happy International Flamenco Day! 💃🏽❤️
Today is marking the date Flamenco was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list. I’m grateful I get to share this art form as a dancer, teacher, and choreographer.

Performing it and teaching it for students reminds me why it matters to keep Flamenco alive— so the next generation can learn it, feel it, and carry it forward!
