Gail Wurtz Studio

Gail Wurtz Studio Painting is such a true joy! Serving in this way has provided a life-long journey of connection, adventure and learning.

As I paint, I feel the deep calmness of Spirit. I am a painter who appreciates that God is indeed the Artist. As a child in Michigan, I was inspired to paint during walks in the woods, especially in my favorite spot under a maple tree. My husband Jim and I cherish our life in Western Michigan, where we aim to serve others. I’ve learned the power of service in my healthcare roles, now applying that

approach to my art. I’m grateful for my mentor, Attila Hejja, whose teachings continue to influence my work. My paintings, including portraits and landscapes, reflect my faith and my commitment to honoring my clients’ visions. To learn more about me and my work, please visit my website at

I wanted to share A Stroll Through The Rose Of Sharon. Pale petals fold into layered planes, near-white with a soft blush where light thins the tissue. A concentrated maroon ring anchors the center, pushing outward into creamy stamens and small, tender green sepals. The close view feels quietly intimate, with curled petals and small pockets of space that invite you to linger. I wanted to share IMG_5554, which centers on a vertical chasm with ribbed cliffs falling into darkness. Rich umber and bronze veins catch a warm glow against the near-black fissure, while the upper edge fragments into teal and rose facets that read like shattered crystal. A small silhouette stands at the rim in a narrow beam of pale turquoise, giving the composition a clear sense of scale and a mood that moves between solitude and discovery. Textured surfaces alternate between coarse, bark-like ridges and smoother mineral planes, and blocks of sky blue, soft pink, and muted green create a quiet mosaic that draws the eye down the vertical axis. Sharing "Ice Biking": a tiny cyclist set low to the right against a wide, cool field of turquoise. The dark silhouette with a pale outline gives the image scale and a quiet suggestion of movement without extra detail. I wanted it to feel calm and contemplative, with generous negative space and subtle color shifts that let the small figure carry the story. Notice the two pale spathes rising like folded sails, their translucent surfaces lit from behind so veins and small blemishes read like a kind of topography. The central spike and its shadow create a quiet study in pattern and silhouette, while the deep green leaves at the base offer a glossy counterpoint. Sunlight filters through foliage beyond, lifting the background without pulling focus from the botanical foreground. I often place this piece in a reading nook or sunroom when I want a calm, tactile presence. I’m sharing "In the Herb Garden." Sunlit yellow blooms thread through a grid of weathered wire against a muted gray backdrop. Diagonal stems and vertical lines give the piece a quiet geometry, while frayed seedheads, nibbled leaf edges, and small orange-and-black butterflies bring rough, living details. Warm yellows against cool neutrals, with green tendrils guiding the eye, create a calm, resilient feeling that reads intimate and brief. Massive buttressed roots flare outward into a trunk that splits into broad, horizontal limbs. A cool green wash clings to the bark, and mottled textures, lichen, smooth patches, and pockets of shadow form a tactile map across the surface. The canopy reads as a dense silhouette against a pale evening sky, with small gaps of light puncturing the foliage. I appreciate the quiet strength this brings to a room, a calm presence that invites a closer look without demanding it.
