Northridge Skateland

Northridge Skateland Northridge Skateland started in 1958 as Valley Skateland. In 1968 the Fleming Family took ownership and continued until March, 2020.

Skateland is now closed and will become The Trebek Center, a bridge-housing facility for the homeless in Northridge. There are few things as ingrained in true Americana as heading to the rink and skating with your friends. Everyone remembers birthday parties growing up with lights, dancing, and games like red light, green light, and Northridge Skateland has been offering those feelings of nostalgi

a for nearly 60 years. As a family-owned and -operated business for six decades, we’ve developed strong ties with our community and have skated with generations of Northridge residents and their families. We appreciate your support for the past 53 years. ~The Fleming Family

With heavy hearts, we sadly announce the passing of Lorraine Fleming this morning at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Orange, Ca. She was 92.
Lorraine, along with her husband Richard bought Valley Skateland in 1968, which was failing at the time. They turned it into Northridge Skateland and together with their sons, Michael and David turned Skateland into a thriving business. They sold the rink to David and Michael in 1978. They decided to move to Lake Nacimiento to begin their retirement. That followed a move to Lake Havasu where they resided until Richard passed away in 2014.
Lorraine was known for her kind heart, motherly advice, and generosity to those in need. She loved the sport and business of roller skating, which is where many of you knew her.
She will be greatly missed by all. We know she and Richard are back together again and we are sure they rolling around heaven together. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name can be made to The Trebek Center c/o Hope of the Valley.

You may have seen a sold-out "Skateland Family Reunion" skating event posted on Facebook by Hope of the Valley. While this event will be held at the former location of Northridge Skateland, the event is NOT affiliated with Northridge Skateland, Dave and Mike Fleming, Courtney Bourdas-Henn or Vickie Martinez in any way. This event is being held by Hope of the Valley. We hope this clarifies any questions or concerns about the event.

We are sorry to announce...
Northridge Skateland is Permanently Closed

We would like to thank you, our loyal skaters, for your love and support over the past 63 years that Skateland has been in business.
The building that housed Skateland and brought countless lifetime memories to millions of roller skaters over the years, will be converted by Hope of the Valley, a faith-based independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, into a bridge-housing facility to get the homeless in the community, back on their feet and into the workforce. Visit HopeOfTheValley.org for more information.
We also want to recognize and thank the thousands of employees who worked at Skateland over the decades. This includes our great managers, office and security staff and all those front line employees that worked every day to provide the best customer experience for every guest who skated with us.
We wish to thank Roy and Stan Bannister who had the vision in 1958 to open what was then called, Valley Skateland, and introduced roller skating to the North Valley.
Finally, our sincerest appreciation goes to Richard and Lorraine Fleming, who purchased the Valley Skateland in 1968, with the vision of offering a clean, safe, entertaining, and caring place for everyone to enjoy. With their son’s David and Michael, they turned it into "Northridge Skateland". Over the past 53 years, it grew to become one of USAToday’s Top 10 Roller Rinks in the US.
For all of us who skated at Skateland, we can agree, it really is #1!!
We hope you will keep your fond memories of Skateland alive and will continue to “keep on rollin.”

An on-line auction of the complete contents of Northridge Skateland is going on now through March 30, 2021 at RLSpear.com.
The bidding is open now and you can view all items by visiting and registering at RLSpear.com. All interior furnishings, fixtures, and equipment will be sold. Shipping is available.
