Kopenhaver Center The premier national organization dedicated to empowering the next generation of women leaders in communication.

The Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver Center for the Advancement of Women in Communication was established in 2012 by Dean Emeritus and Professor Dr. Lillian Lodge Kopenhaver as a pioneering site for the advancement of women in the field of communication -- a unique programming distinction at FIU. The Center's mission is to foster and advance the academic and professional growth of women by supporting the next generation of professionals and giving them the impetus to take on challenges and to pursue leadership positions in the communication industry. The Center will engage females in a series of workshops, lectures, advisory boards, panel discussions and other activities, to further prepare them for successful communication careers - encouraging them to be future influencers and distinguished leaders of the profession.

Today we shine a spotlight on the final two members of our Leadership Council two accomplished leaders who bring expertise, experience and a commitment to advancing the Kopenhaver Center’s mission.

Stephanie Bertini, Reporter at FOX 5 NY, is an award-winning television news reporter with more than 15 years of experience in the United States and Canada. Her work has covered major issues including homelessness, criminal justice, immigration, border security, gun violence, race, politics and labor disputes.

Jose Zamora, Regional Director for the Americas at the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), brings extensive experience in journalism, communications, media innovation and freedom of expression. He previously held communications roles at Exile Content Studio and Univision News and led the Knight News Challenge at the Knight Foundation.

It’s Winning Wednesday! 💫 We’re celebrating three more accomplished leaders in our Leadership Council Spotlight who continue to advance the Kopenhaver Center’s mission.

Janet Rivera-Hernandez, Senior Vice President of Communications for Mastercard Latin America and the Caribbean, has been with Mastercard since 2002 and has played a key role in transformative communications programs for more than two decades. Her work has supported major company milestones, including the expansion of communications across Latin America and brand identity changes.
