The #1 secret I learned from running a sensory play place: Step away from the sponge.

If it's Oobleck, mud, or messy play dough-don't scrub it while it's wet! You're just grinding it in. Let it dry 100%, then vacuum it up. Save your energy for the playing, not the scrubbing.

Garbanzo Beans, also known as CHICKPEAS!!! They can be dyed as well! The best method we have found is to use non-toxic paint. You may also use food dye; it will be taste-safe, just not as vibrant. We like to mix in a ziploc bag that we would reuse until it couldn't handle it!

Ready to set up your own Messy Mixing Station at home? Here’s how:

1️⃣ Lay Down a Base: Use a shower curtain liner under your workspace—it’s a lifesaver for easy cleanup.
2️⃣ Gather Your ‘Ingredients’: Baking soda, vinegar, herbs, spices, shaving cream… anything goes!
3️⃣ Hands-On Help: Encourage your child to help with the mixing AND the cleanup. Side by Side play is important and modeling! It goes a long way when teaching the littles.
4️⃣ Redirect Throwing: If they start tossing materials, gently remind them: “This is for mixing, not throwing.” If they really want to throw, provide a separate bin or area where tossing is allowed (like outside, if possible) OR give a warning "Mixing will have to stop if we can't keep it in the bin."

REMEMBER: Its just a mess and messes can be cleaned. You are creating magical memories and a love of learning!

The messier, the merrier!

🌈 Make A Mess Is Back – With a New Perspective 🌈

Hey, friends. 💛 It’s been a long journey these past few years, hasn’t it? Like so many of you, the pandemic brought big changes—not just to my business, but to my mental health too.

I’ve been navigating anxiety-like symptoms that sometimes made it hard to see the way forward. But one thing I’ve learned is this: creativity, connection, and purpose are some of the most powerful tools we have for healing. 🎨✨

That’s why I’m so excited to bring Make A Mess back—this time, with a focus on helping others create their own joyful, messy play adventures, whether for families, schools, or businesses. We are even looking at meeting people who may want to do their own messy play and operate under the name Make A Mess!

I’ll be sharing:
💡 A freebie to spark your creativity and ideas.
📚 Digital resources like business plans, marketing kits, and an inspiring ebook.
🧠 Tips and tools to balance creativity with mental health, because I know firsthand how important this is.

For anyone who’s struggled with anxiety, overwhelm, or just the challenges of rebuilding after the pandemic—you’re not alone. 💛 I hope Make A Mess can be a space where you find support, inspiration, and a little joy, just like it’s been for me.

If this resonates with you, please let me know in the comments or send me a message. I’d love to hear your story, too. 🖌️✨

Here’s to messy, creative, healing journeys together! 🌟

💛 Always,
Michelle

I will put a link to the freebie in my comments! HMU if you have problems! Have a great monday!
