AUDITIONS for a new show called Smart People this Tuesday, Feb 18th @ 7pm. This will not be a Mirror Theater Co production, but the first production of the brand new theater company that will be taking over the same space. OPEN CALL:
Elizabeth Barry is on the fast track to the top rung of academia, and nothing is going to stop her. Her son Albert, whose life she has engineered from birth, has just won a major physics award and could be the next Carl Sagan. Then Albert goes to a conference in Las Vegas and meets a girl who isn’t exactly the kind you bring home to mother. All hell breaks loose, raising questions of responsibility, morality and the choices we make, proving that life is never predictable but always funny.
ELIZABETH BARRY – Middle age college professor, a type A control freak whose life has all gone to plan until now.
DAVID BARRY – Middle age philosophy professor. A rational, practical
man and peace maker of the family.
ALBERT BARRY – Their 21-22 year old son, a physics genius who’s been totally sheltered his entire life. He finally meets a girl and is like a kid in a candy store.
ANGEL – mid twenties—An attractive exotic dancer who is not educated, but life smart and street smart. Angel is the character most comfortable in her own skin.
RAY – thirty something—a low level Vegas mob guy. Ray is menacing, but not a thug. He’s a smart guy who has just made a lot of bad life choices.
THE FIXER – Age range 35-50. Knows where the bodies are buried, because he put them there. Character is like Mike from Breaking Bad…cleans up others’ messes.
