NHAC is excited to help spread the word about Silver Streaks, an art showcase featuring the work of North Haven High School student Mia Monaco-Lizotte!

Mia will be showcasing artwork she has created over the past year, with the exhibition sponsored by Magnolia Theatre Company and hosted at the Whitneyville Cultural Commons in Hamden.

Make a night of it! The showcase will be on display before Magnolia Theatre Company's production of Godspell each evening. Come early to enjoy Mia's artwork, then stay for the show!

Another opportunity for theater fans right here at the North Haven Cinemark Theater!!

With the original Broadway principals (Reeve Carney, Eva Noblezada, Amber Gray, Patrick Page, André De Shields), Hadestown is a folk-opera musical by Anaïs Mitchell that intertwines the Greek myths of Orpheus and Eurydice with Hades and Persephone, set in a post-apocalyptic, Depression-era America. Known for its jazz and folk-inspired score, it follows two love stories as it journeys to the underworld, exploring themes of nature vs. industry, faith vs. doubt, and love vs. fear. The show evolved from a community theater project into a Broadway hit, winning multiple Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

HERlesque is a locally produced live performance celebrating women, femme performers, and creative expression through movement, music, choreography, costume design, and storytelling. It’s a unique evening showcasing local artists and the many forms that live performance can take.

Thank you to everyone who submitted a design and took the time to vote in the NHAC Logo Contest! We received so many amazing and creative submissions, giving our community some incredible artwork to choose from.

We are excited to officially announce and congratulate our logo contest winner, Ainsley!

Ainsley is a talented young artist who loves drawing, painting, and playing the piano. A fan of Billy Joel, she recently competed in the Miss Connecticut’s Teen pageant, placing 4th Runner-Up and performing “New York State of Mind” on piano for her talent. She is also a member of the North Haven High School Cheer and Tennis Teams.

Today we celebrate Juneteenth, a day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States and honors the ongoing pursuit of freedom, equity, and justice.

At the North Haven Arts Collaborative, we believe art helps us understand our shared history, amplify voices that have too often been overlooked, and imagine a more inclusive future. Art has long been a powerful tool for storytelling, resistance, healing, and community building.

As we reflect on the significance of Juneteenth, we encourage our community to explore the ways artists have documented, challenged, and shaped conversations about freedom and civil rights throughout American history.

One resource we recommend is the Juneteenth programming and educational materials offered by the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury. The museum regularly highlights the intersection of art, history, and African American experiences while showcasing diverse artists and perspectives from Connecticut and beyond.
Today is an opportunity to learn, reflect, celebrate, and support the stories that continue to shape our communities.

Young Author Spotlight: North Haven's own Ben Spencer!

At the North Haven Arts Collaborative, we love celebrating creativity in all its
forms and today we're excited to shine a spotlight on one of our community's
youngest artists and storytellers!

Meet Ben Spencer, a student at Ridge Road Elementary School in North Haven,
who has accomplished something many adults only dream about: he has written
and published his very own book!

Noncrock and the Shattering of the Temple follows ten-year-old Patrick
Anderson, whose ordinary life is turned upside down when he discovers a hidden
portal beneath his bedroom carpet. Alongside his sister Susan, Patrick is
transported to the magical kingdom of Noncrock, where he must battle fiery
enemies, ride a Pegasus named Concord, and discover the hero within himself.
Filled with adventure, friendship, magic, and courage, Ben's story showcases an
incredible imagination and a passion for creative storytelling.

As a community dedicated to supporting the arts, we are inspired by young
creators like Ben who remind us that creativity has no age limit. Writing a book
takes dedication and publishing one at such a young age is an extraordinary
achievement.

Congratulations, Ben! We can't wait to see where your creativity takes you next.
