Part Three of my art collective. Watercolor and collage.
I first heard “It’s Alright to Cry” when I was in elementary school. Once a week, we would go to the counselor’s office for sessions where we talked about all kinds of things. I remember her turning off the lights and playing a filmstrip with this guy singing and Muppets on the screen.
And there I was, probably in third grade, sitting in the dark on a plastic chair and absolutely sobbing.
I don’t think of myself as much of a crier, but even now, this song takes me right back to that room. That little girl sitting in the dark, hearing that it was okay to cry—and just letting it all out.
Funny how a song can hold a memory for decades.
