Artist Statement –
My name is Chloe, or Coco, and I love being creative and unique. Lately I feel I have rediscovered art and my passion for art and painting. After speaking with my professor who has really guided me in my art journey, the realization hit me that I can appreciate other artists’ work while also creating what I want to create; my style does not have to be just like others’ style; my style should be my own. Art is not necessarily about the time, effort, and little details put into the work. It’s about making a place for your thoughts, feelings, ideas, stories, and lessons to visualize themselves and take up their rightful space. I am now in the process of learning how to fine-tune what I like to create into something I am proud of and want to see more of. My favorite painting I’ve ever done was fun, fast, natural, unique, dare I say easy, and fun to look at. I want to start doing more of that and I want to figure out how to keep doing more of that.

End of Semester Show Theme –

Cloud 9

My theme is about the supernatural beauty of the skies. I want to highlight the silver lining of life when you get outside and look at the expanse all around you. It is always
changing and always beautiful, just like life. I chose this theme to practice self expression and letting loose. I am trying to teach myself that there truly is beauty in imperfection and that rigidity can be hurtful and limiting in art

Artist Statement –
In my perspective, art is a multifaceted medium to express something. That something which art is used to express is often a feeling, such as peace, fear, tranquility, sadness, happiness, joy, and many other feelings. Art can be used to communicate thoughts, such as seen in charcutiers, political cartoons, and art pieces regarding some aspect of society or the world. Art can also be used to express states of being, or the state of which something exists in. Some states of being that can be shown by art are stillness or silence, or maybe a moment frozen in time. Art seems to be a highly complex form of communication. Art is an unspoken language that can be so complex that sometimes it simply cannot be translated into any other language. My focus in creating art is to communicate something. Often, I will try to communicate the beauty I see in something, or the thoughts and feelings that an image evokes in my soul. Most of my works focus on nature and beauty and usually aims to evoke the feelings of peace or tranquility for the viewer.

End of Semester Show Theme –

The Beauty of Nature

My theme is semi self-explanatory, I want to create artwork that displays the beauty of the natural world. Specifically, I want to take natural landscapes and components of nature and romanticize them so others can see nature the way that I perceive the natural world. I chose this theme because I am from the countryside and most of my extended family is also from the countryside. Plus, after attending college in an urban area, I am missing the beauty of the natural world of which I grew up seeing. Now, I look for nature even in urban environments. A flower growing through the crack in a sidewalk, ivy growing on the side of a building, they bring me nostalgia and joy. I plan on creating artwork centering around both rural, countryside environments and nature making its way even in semi-urban environments. Two projects will be completely in a countryside setting and another will be showing nature thriving even in challenging environments.

Artist Statement –
I believe that every child is an artist, and every artists is a child at heart. We are made to create, it is ingrained in us from the moment we open our eyes. My work is fueled by the wonder and curiosity I kept from my childhood; A magic lens through which colors often appear brighter, light shines more brightly, and shapes never know the meaning of “mathematical perfection.” I am inspired by the art of children because they create simply because they can, not because they must. I too wish to inspire those around me with my art, in hopes of encouraging all ages to use their imagination and creativity to create art and experience the freedom found in letting go of perfection. I want to make art because it fills my soul with joy, not because I need to perfect a craft, but because I get to reflect the creativity of God.

End of Semester Show Theme –

The Kaleidoscope Series

I want my art to reflect the joy I find in the freedom to create. Instead of looking for one way to portray a beautiful thing, I get to find a million ways to reflect all beautiful things. And in my endeavor to do so, it is my desire to create works that are blissfully whimsical: In color, shape, texture, and subject matter. I want this theme to be characterized by bright, bold, lighthearted images; Images that evoke a sense of childlike wonder.

I chose this theme because it reflects the childlike wonder and creativity that I have rediscovered during my transition into the Arts department at Charleston Southern University.

I would like to explore nostalgic images and scenes. Ones that look like they could have popped right out of an old wild tale or pleasant memory. This includes elevating common objects and landscapes to express how they might appear in a child’s imagination.

I think this could be well executed across several projects by creating a group of works that jump out and catch viewer’s attention, reminding them of the freedom and joy found in regular life by indulging in imagination and looking at the world through the kaleidoscope of creativity.

Artist Statement –
My work is rooted in a deep appreciation for the outdoors and the sense of belonging I feel there. Growing up surrounded by nature shaped the way I see color, form, and movement, and those early experiences continue to guide my creative process. Through each painting, I aim to capture those connections and share the beauty, calm, and wonder
I find in being outside. Ultimately, my art is a way for me to stay connected to the places that feel like home and to invite others into that experience.

End of Semester Show Theme –
Threads of the Wild explores the quiet connections woven throughout the outdoors, specifically between the land, the wildlife, and the moments that often go unnoticed. By featuring a deer, turkey, duck, and bass, this series reflects how each animal is intertwined with its environment, creating scenes that feel both familiar and alive. Growing up in the country shaped my love for the outdoors, and these l paintings are a way for me to express that connection through color, atmosphere, and personal style. Ultimately, this series is a celebration of the wild places that have always inspired me and a reflection of the beauty I find in the natural world.
