Hey all! Whew! It has been a while since I have posted after a crazy last month.

I am up here in Ninety Six. I rode the storm out with the kids and am currently starting repairs. I have spotty cell service and spotty internet, so I am posting an update here for the people that have sent messages and emails over the past week. I will send out individual replies later today or return calls when I head into town and have a more reliable connection.

It is a terrible and heartbreaking situation up here. Fortunately, coming from the coast I was able to prep adequately for the storm from years and years of going through everything from a near miss to the major impact of Hugo. The folks up here were not prepared for this at all.

The only prep they received that I have seen so far is just the weather reports. These reports told them they would get up to TS force winds, and maybe some minor power loss. My little town up here issued no information on preparing for a storm ahead of this. Folks were not prepared for a week with no power, days with out access out of town, or preparing to be stocked with enough food for trucks to resupply after the power was restored. Oh and gas...that is a whole other story of nightmares.

I've had a few Hugo flashbacks while up here. Seeing and when I have internet access reading about what is going on in other places it is terrible. I didn't even want to access social media for a while even when I could because of all the desperate posts begging for help. I just couldnt mentally handle it when I knew some of this could have been prevented if people were educated and prepared.

We now have power at the house. I was able to resupply some of the perishables up here locally. Folks were driving all the way into Atlanta to get supplies a day or two ago. So I am greatful that I was prepped and didn't have to look too far to get what we needed until after the trucks started the resupply.

We took some minor damage to the house up here. I am ever so greatful that I cut down the pecan tree in the back yard last year. We would have lost the house if not. Most of the trees down are oak, pecan and pine up here. Pine of course snapped, but the pecans and oaks all uprooted.

Today I'm going to contact insurance and see if it is worth making a claim or not. Then starting repairs. I need a new roof on the barn and new ban doors. New fascia boards and new siding in the eaves. I figured if I can get the house squared away we can start repairs on the barn over time depending on what the insurance says.

Power up here is slowly coming back up. It wasn't just lines down, but entire sections of infrastructure that was taken out as well. But I want to say once again, as soon as I am in town for a while I will send out replies and calls!

Enjoy some photos from around Lake Marion after Debby started to clear out!

Ken and I were able to take a drive up to Lake Marion to check on any potential storm damage to our property up by the lake.

All kinds of amazing critters were starting to come out in the late afternoon. The mushrooms 🍄 are loving this wet weather!!

The pond, of course, was out of its banks. Surprisingly, the water was both higher and deeper than during the 100 year flood!

I am so looking forward to calling this spot home one day. (Unless, you know, someone makes me an offer I can't refuse! 😉).

Just because we say we are taking a small break, it doesn't mean we aren't still learning and improving skills!! 😉

I've actually been busy!!

I found some time to work on some drawing skills between finishing up all of the projects at the Ninety Six house and a week long trip to Indiana to take Alex up there to go fishing in Canada 🇨🇦 and visit with some family.

People really aren't in my skill set, but I decided I needed to learn and grow.

Birds and bugs and cute critters are really what I like to doodle.

Next up is learning how to draw and create seamless patterns...and I have an idea for designing my first alphabet!

I'm also spending time looking for some great new projects! Keeping our tried and true staples and bringing in a whole new experiences.

This little downtime has been great to really evaluate the direction I really want to move in and pick up a few new skills.

And speaking of new skills, I will be reworking the entire website over the next few weeks. As soon as I learn a little more Javascript. Or beg Nick to come write or drop in code for me! 😄

I was able to grab some shots of this abandoned wooden building that is on the neighbor's property next to Dad's in Cameron. It is probably an old farm workers or sharecroopers house, but I have not done the research to confirm just what it is. It is beautiful in it's decay.

The last two photos are of the abandoned building along the back edge of dad's property along the farm access road. When dad bought the house the previous owner actually forgot the building was back there in the woods.

There is a treasure trove of stuff in there if you have a good eye and are willing to make repairs and do restorations. Dishes spanning from the 40's to the 70's. Saw some old masonic items in there. That amazing birdcage with the stand is just waiting to be cleaned up and repainted. Lots of old canning equipment from the farm. And a mummified squirrel or two!

And can we talk about that vintage stove? I told dad if we get the nest out of it and it works I really want to see about restoring it!!

I can't wait to actually start clearing it out and seeing what else may be hiding in there under all the broken bits.

Upon our return to Charleston this evening, a dazzling double rainbow on I26 unfolded before us.

There is no truer testament to the strength and beauty that unfolds after every storm than a rainbow.

I hope that you too persevered through the turmoil and emerged as resplendent as this evening's rainbow.

OMG!! I love him!! What should his name be?

I saw this on marketplace last night while up here in Ninety Six getting the house ready for an appraiser and an engineer to come in and do a report. I just had to have him!

He may not be everyone's cup of tea, but he is going to be perfect for my vision for my office redo in Charleston!!

And, we are officially out of our Hanahan space. The only thing that remains are unfinished Rosco and Murry. I'm going to have to repaint them so I can continue to have a "shop pet!"

My family, Ken, Nick, Alex, Jamie, and myself want to thank each and every single person that has supported our Studio over the last 3 years. We have come to think of many of you not just as makers, but as friends. We have loved our time in Hanahan and will treasure the memories and connections we have made with you all.

This however, is not goodbye. It is simply, we will see you later! After a short , but much needed break, and some dedicated time to dealing with several personal issues that had to be put aside in favor of the Studio we will be back!

Our goal is to begin mobile operations sometime in late August. Our hopes will always remain to be able to return to an in Studio setting at some point in the future. In the meantime, we will begin a major rebuild of our website, as well as a possible name change, to better reflect the direction we are moving in. We will, of course, notify you all here when we have updates and announcements.

You can always still message us during our break for any custom orders that you may like to have us make for you. If you have outstanding gift cards they will remain active. You can message us now as we are rebuilding the website and we can give you instructions on how to redeem them for a take home kit or a made by us item. Or, hold on to them and join us for a new workshop in the future!!

Once again, we would like to express our sincere appreciation of all of the support we have received while in our Studio in Hanahan. We are going to miss seeing so many of you regularly!

Good things are headed this way! Remember, the best is always yet to come!

Love and thanks to all!!

Brandi ❤️
