Tonight would’ve been our opening night of DAMN YANKEES. In light of recent events, we wanted to share a special tribute to the “man behind the curtain”-- Mark Heffernan. Mark was the heart of the Genesius Players, and a very special part of all of our Walsh journeys. Sometimes castmates remain friends, but if you’re lucky, they become family. Mark was an extremely dedicated and talented director that had a way of connecting with his cast. He always made everyone feel important and never wasted an opportunity to let us know. His devotion to all of his actors and shows was unmatched. Mark had a knack for telling stories, which was evident in his curtain speeches. The considerable amount of time and effort he put into his shows was unmatched. He could sometimes be spotted drinking a Monster at rehearsal so that he could watch Dancing with the Stars with his wife when he got home late. He was known for spending countless hours tracking down various props, such as shelled pecans and salon chairs. Showing his artistic talents, Mark also did his share of making props, and was not shy to bring it to our attention. But aside from all of this, Mark knew the secret to a successful production: HEART. He reserved a place in the heart of everyone who knew him.
“You can open any door, there's nothin' to it but to do it
You've gotta have heart
Miles 'n miles n' miles of heart”
We dedicate this opening night to you, Mark. Thank you. ❤️
