D. S. Parrott Middle School Band Program

It has been an incredibly successful week for the Music Program here at D. S. Parrott Middle School, marking an exciting new chapter in our program’s pursuit of excellence at Music Performance Assessments.

This past Saturday, our Concert Choir, made up of both beginning and advanced singers, took the stage at SpringLife Church in Spring Hill. The students delivered a wonderful performance, earning the choir program a straight Excellent rating — the highest rating our school has received since 2023!

Yesterday, our Concert Band, also consisting of both beginning and advanced students, performed at MPA for the first time since 2023. Joseph Harrin and the Hernando High School Band were excellent hosts for us, former Parrott students helping set up this event and showering their support from the crowd. The students rose to the occasion and delivered an outstanding performance, earning an overall Superior rating, including a Superior rating in the Sightreading room — the first time our school has achieved a Superior rating since 2013!

I could not be more proud of these students and the level of musicianship they have achieved in such a short amount of time. While there is still a long road ahead, this group of dedicated young musicians continues to raise the bar for what our program can accomplish.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to our parents, teachers, and administrators for the continued encouragement and support that help make these achievements possible.

Last Friday, our D.S. Parrott Advanced Band students made their official debut alongside the Hernando High School Royal Regiment at HHS’s Middle School Band Night — and they absolutely shined! 💜💛

It’s always incredibly rewarding to watch our students step confidently into the next stage of their musical journey — performing, laughing, and creating memories that remind us why we do what we do.

Last night, we had an amazing crowd of parents and family members show up and show out to our Beginning Band Demo Concert, where we put on full display all the young talent we have in our program. These students are building upon their success in the music room one day at a time, rising to the challenge time and time again.

Congratulations to our Advanced Band for receiving an overall Excellent rating at the District 5 Music Performance Assessment!

This is the first time the band has gone for a rating since 2015 and it is the first time the band received an overall Superior for their onstage performance since 2013!

We are so proud of their hard work and determination throughout the last couple months as they prepared for this performance. Onwards to our Spring Concert!

Next performance will be our Spring Concert titled ‘The Land Before Band’ on Thursday, April 28th.

Our Advanced Band will be performing at our Music Performance Assessment next Wednesday at River Ridge HS.

Congratulations to all members of the D.S. Parrott choir for a beautiful performance at MPA yesterday. Our choir earned an overall excellent rating with a superior rating in the sight reading room. We are so proud of you and cannot wait to see what you do next!

Congratulations to our fellow band members who participated in this year’s Hernando/Citrus All-County Band. These students rehearsed Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday with other musicians from both counties to perform a concert on Saturday. We are so proud of their hard work and growth as young musicians and leaders!

Special thanks to Mrs. Heather Lundahl for being our guest conductor for the middle school band!
