Yvonne Lamar-Rogers and El Barrio’s Artspace PS109 announce their second annual multi-media exhibition
WOMEN CELEBRATE WOMEN
Creative works of 71 New York-area women artists on display
NEW YORK, NY, Aug. 01, 2021 — Yvonne Lamar-Rogers, owner of Vonnie Made It!, an- nounces today that she has partnered with El Barrio’s Artspace PS109 to present the second annual multi-media art exhibition celebrating diversity in New York’s female visual arts community by exhibiting the creative works of 71 local women artists.
The opening reception will be held Thursday, August 12, 2021 from 6-9 p.m. at El Barrio’s Art- space PS109, 215 E. 99th Street, New York, NY 10029. The exhibition will remain on view through August 25th.
Exhibition curator and New York-based mixed media artist, teaching artist and jewelry designer, Yvonne Lamar-Rogers says the mission of this year’s Women Celebrate Women exhibition is to celebrate and honor women of all backgrounds. In the words of playwright Ntozake Shange, “Where there is a woman, there is magic.”
Originally planned for Women’s History Month in March 2020, the annual exhibition will instead be held this year in August due to the coronavirus pandemic. Organizers look forward to hold- ing future Women Celebrate Women exhibitions in March.
The public is welcome to view the amazing collection of multi-media creative works in the heart of an East Harlem artistic community at the beautiful El Barrio’s Artspace PS109, a previously abandoned public school building that was transformed into a community housing complex for artists. The circa-1899 landmark building offers beautiful space for the arts as well as important cultural programming in the East Harlem community.
Women Celebrate Women welcomes 71 participating artists
Earlier this year, female artists of all disciplines were invited to submit their work celebrating and honoring women. More than 100 talented female artists answered the call. This year’s multi-media exhibition will feature work from a diverse and inclusive group of women artists.
