Continuing our weekend feature where we ask SPX Staff and Community, “What’s On Your Nightstand?”

This weekend, longtime Exhibitor and SPX Outreach Coordinator, Matt (RM Rhodes) takes us to France:

“For the past fifteen years, I have been reading French language comics with a teacher who helps me with my translation. The book we’re reading now is La Crevette by Zidrou and Paul Salomone. It’s a workplace comedy about two female roommates who work in a tiny Parisian lingerie firm in 1958. Their notoriously grouchy is boss is especially angry because the truck containing the latest shipment of custom undergarments drove into a river. Meanwhile, the two girls are trying to find love amidst the newfangled sounds of rock and roll. The art is realistic with a whimsical line and the colors are painted, adding to the nostalgic feel of the story.”

The day before SPX, Special Guests and Staff made a trip to the Library of Congress to take a look at some of their vast collection of comic art.

Later that same night, SPX celebrated Fantagraphics’ 50th Anniversary with its founder, Gary Groth, cartoonists under the Fantagraphics banner and many, many friends.
