Pangaea Trails Project

Pangaea Trails Project PROJECT PANGAEA™ provides the tools for explorers of all kinds to have amazing experiences on the 32,000 km International Appalachian Trail.

The International Appalachian Trail (IAT) is an epic route that will eventually link premier recreational, natural and cultural experiences in more than 19 Nations. Extending from Alabama (United States) through the Canadian Atlantic Provinces, Greenland, Iceland, Scandinavia, Western Europe and North Africa, the IAT encourages exploration, adventure and dialogue between countries united by their

shared Appalachian Geology. Working alongside the International Appalachian Trail (IAT), PROJECT PANGAEA™ provides the tools for explorers of all kinds to have amazing experiences on the 32,000 km (20,000 mile) mile IAT. ANCIENT OCEAN FOSSILS FOUND NEAR THE INTERNATIONAL APPALACHIAN TRAIL (IAT) IN THE UK.

Wales and the Surrounding Region are a part of the IAT. This means that the local geology connects to the time 250 Million years ago that the UK and Europe separated from North America (Pangaea) creating the Atlantic Ocean. Geologic Evidence is plentiful in this Region. In fact, recently, Fossil-Hunters Neville and Sally Hollingworth discovered Several Major Fossils including this 200 Million year old Predator Fish PACHYCORMUS that is preserved in a Very Rare Three Dimensional state. Professional Paleontologists from the University of Manchester are now laying out a Research Plan for this Site which sits in a Farmer's Cattle Field.

It is this type of find that helps to tell the Story of the IAT and how far inland the Warm Atlantic Waters came in. With Global Warming upon us, maybe the Atlantic will come in this far again? Curiously for me, this Farm is located just a few miles south of where I was born.

COMMUNITY CONCERTS AND PUBLIC HIKES ALONG THE INTERNATIONAL APPALACHIAN TRAIL IN MASSACHUSETTS, USA

One of the great things about the IAT are the many and various gem experiences along the 22,000 miles. Such is the Massachusetts Walking Tour. Mark Mandeville and Raianne Richards started this Musical Tour in 2010, but the Pandemic stopped things for the past 2 years. Other Tours could be established along other IAT Sections in Canada, Iceland, UK, Norway, France, Spain and Morocco.

NEW SECTION OF THE INTERNATIONAL APPALACHIAN TRAIL (IAT) OPENS IN NORTHERN IRELAND, UK - THE CAUSEWAY COASTAL ROUTE.
FROM THE START, NORTHERN IRELAND WAS EXCITED TO EXPLORE A CONNECTION TO THE IAT WHICH STARTS IN GEORGIA, USA AND ENDS 20,000 MILES LATER IN THE ANTI ATLAS MOUNTAINS OF MOROCCO.

Northern Ireland has many Historical and Natural Treasures to share with Visitors and this Causeway Coastal Route will encourage sustainable tourism in this Region. Portaneevey is on Northern Ireland's North Coast and offers Breathtaking Views and is an important Trailhead for the Walkers. Viewing Platforms are being developed along the IAT. Besides the Dramatic Coastal Views there are the Majestic Ruins of Dunluce Castle which had its earliest beginnings in the 13th Century and more recently became the film location of the GAME OF THRONES Castle of Pyke.

THE INTERNATIONAL APPALACHIAN TRAIL WAS POPULAR 100,000 YEARS AGO

Bone and Tool evidence has shown us that Neanderthals lived in parts of the Middle East and Europe from 400,000 to 40,000 years ago. Recent finds are showing us that Neanderthals walked along the IAT from Southern Spain to Northern France during this period. Most probably, they were searching for new food sources. A year ago, 87 Neanderthal Footprints were discovered along the shoreline of Donana National Park in Southern Spain and have been dated to the Upper Pleistocene Period of around 106,000 years ago. In 2019, researchers discovered 257 Neanderthal Footprints in Northwestern France and dated those to around 80,000 years ago. Modern Humans arrived in Europe around 45,000 years ago.
