I have recently been thinking about book banning and reducing what subjects educators can teach about or even discuss. I recently reviewed all the plays that the Drury Drama Team staged over the 25 years that I was the director and discovered that almost all of them, except for Oz have been banned or protested by one group or another. Then I realized that I was wrong. The Wizard of Oz has been banned in a number of school districts because “good witches,” according to some groups, imply that witchcraft may be an acceptable belief.
