ACU Bands

ACU Bands All things Big Purple and ACU Bands! YBP! The Big Purple Marching Band is one of the oldest and most storied organizations on the ACU campus.

It is a vital part of campus life, performing at Opening Assembly, football games, parades, in exhibition at invitational and UIL marching contests, concerts, and more. Each student receives a participation scholarship and one P.E. credit, and no audition is required. Rehearsals are held MWF on the “Stompin’ Grounds” behind the Williams Performing Arts Center. The camaraderie among Big Purple Band

members is legendary on campus, offering great social opportunities and friendships that last a lifetime, as well as the pride of performing in one of ACU's best-loved music traditions.

Wonderful post from ACU. A reminder as part of the ACU Bands concert this Friday evening we will perform Grainger’s “Colonial Song” in honor of Ed and Kathy.

We are grateful for the distinguished teaching career and legacy of musician, director and arranger Dr. Ed George (’61), professor emeritus of music who died recently at age 89.

The ACU Bands join in celebrating the life of Dr. Ed George. His impact on the ACU Bands, the ACU Department of Music, the city of Abilene, students, colleagues, friends, and all he touched is immeasurable. The ACU Wind Ensemble will dedicate our performance of Percy Grainger's "Colonial Song" to his memory, and the memory of Kathy George (who passed last year). Our hearts go out to the George family, are full of wonderful memories and joy that we knew them, and how their influence will live on.
