studio1409 My photographic work these days is very old-school, and generally in film. My photographic work these days is very old-school.

In the street, I usually operate two cameras in manual mode (shutter, aperture, and focusing; without metering) in the tradition of Cartier-Bresson, placing an emphasis on spontaneity. In the studio I use a variety of analog and digital cameras, ranging from 35 mm, through medium format, to large format. For the photographers, my street kit comprises of a Leica M6 (film) body, a Leica (digital) M8

.2 body, a Leica 50mm SUMMICRON f/2 lens, a Zeiss Ikon 28mm f/2.8 T* lens, and a Leica SF 20 flash with a hotshoe extension cord. In the studio, I tend to use a Canon 5D and a 50 mm prime lens for most of my color work. I also have a Canon 30D that has been modified for deep infrared work (> 830 nm). My B&W work is almost always in film, employing either one of three Hasselblad systems in medium format or one of two 4x5 view cameras. I tend to prefer to use natural light, but when I use artificial light, I tend to use continuous tungsten studio lighting (for greater control), but I also use flash systems.

With the help of a friend, I took my self-portrait this morning. It is possible that this will be the last photograph taken in studio1409. After almost six years, the studio is closing because The Artist is moving to South Africa in a few weeks. New adventures await.
