Happy Juneteenth! 🖤 Today we celebrate freedom, resilience, and the richness of Black culture. This image by Kwame Brathwaite captures three models in Afrocentric garb at the Merton Simpson Gallery in New York. Brathwaite dedicated his career to celebrating Black beauty and ancestral pride at a time when that was a radical act. ✊🏾

Norfolk Arts in partnership with the Chrysler Museum is bringing this FREE event to the historic Attucks Theatre, featuring Grammy Award-Winning rapper, wordsmith, and torchbearer for Hip-Hop culture, MadSkillz, and songwriter and co-chair of the Black Music Collective, Torae.

Enjoy live performances from Bobby Black Hat, Hot Gumbo Brass Band, Shark City Drum, Fortresses, and the Leviticus Gospel Choir.

Hear from Teens with a Purpose's newly named Youth Poet Laureates, engage in Music & The Movement with Delegate Jackie Glass, and meet local artists selected by Nyree Dowdy of the Chrysler Museum as part of the "Rhythm of the Stage" exhibition.

! 🌎 Our Program Assistant Olga Novak recently had the chance to see our "Les Filles de Paul Durand-Ruel, Marie-Thérèse and Jeanne" on view at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris as part of the major international exhibition, "Renoir and Love: A Joyful Modernity (1865–1885)". ❤️

This work, translated as "The Daughters of Paul Durand Ruel, Marie-Thérèse and Jeanne", is featured in the exhibition's section devoted to portraits and family scenes. The exhibition explores Renoir's distinctive focus on romance, friendship, and human connection during Impressionist-era Paris.

📍 On view at the Musée d'Orsay through July 19, 2026.
