The most challenging thing about musical improv? Not rhyming "self" with "else."

The best thing about musical improv?" Making strangers listen to me make up song lyrics on the fly, an honor that used to only be bestowed upon my cat."

Patrick's favorite musical star is Audrey II, favorite musical movie is W***y Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, and his favorite composer is Elliott Smith. His favorite musical genre? Muppet. And if karaoke breaks out, expect MGMT's Kids... sung country western style.

Patrick is most looking forward to remembering some impressive thing musical maestro Andy Poindexter did that he was too focused during the scene to realize in the moment. While bringing his "comedy-ish" comedy style to a Jam that can only be described as "Elderberry"! Come see Patrick and the rest of the cast at The Diversity Jam Jam!

The Diversity Jam Jam is turning up the volume with a stacked lineup of musical comedy!

✨ Not only do we have short form musical comedy, we also have sketches and have our PUSH Musical Improv House Team: Choral Fixation AND the Musical Improv 101 class joining us as well!

From clever comedy to spontaneous songs, this show celebrates creativity, collaboration, the joy of live performance, and, of course, diversity in comedy!

Zach Davis

Zach knows that musical improv is all about jumping in and embracing the moment.

The most challenging thing about musical improv?
"Recognizing, as I’m singing, that I cannot carry a tune". 

The best thing about musical improv?
"Being unabashedly and authentically yourself"

Zach's favorite musical star is Sweeney Todd, and his music influences include Sleater-Kinney, the Ramones, and Black Sabbath. And his favorite music genre is punk!

He can, under duress, play basic 12 bar blues on bass. And while he has never done karaoke, the idea of getting a microphone just to sing the Mr. Belvedere theme song definitely makes him smile.

He's looking forward to playing with talented, funny people with his "Stationary" comedy style in this "Sonorous" Jam.

🎭 Meet Rebecca Myers! 🎶

Rebecca knows that musical improv is all about embracing the unexpected!

The most challenging thing about musical improv? Rhyming. "Rhyming is so easy in my car. Why do I forget how to do it on stage?"

The best thing about musical improv? "Being stupid with friends."

Rebecca says her voice is her instrument, but she's been known to make bad sounds come out of pianos. 😂 (And honestly same). But she makes beautiful sounds with her go-to karaoke song is "Maybe This Time" from Cabaret.

Her comedy style? Rambunctious.

Her Friday Night Plans? Bringing spontaneous songs, laughs, and surprises to The Diversity JAM JAM!

🎹 Meet Lisa Powell 🎹
Lisa Powell

Lisa says that the biggest challenge of musical improv is "rhyming on the fly." It may not be required, but it's always her personal goal. Her favorite part? "Ridiculousness with a soundtrack." Her musical favorites range from Annie, Fame, Grease 2 (don't judge her!), and Into the Woods to artists like Yukimi Nagano of Little Dragon and producer Nile Rodgers. Her favorite genre depends entirely on her mood.

Lisa not wrote a sketch that she will be performing, and plays the piano, but she also sings, especially when it’s time for her go to Karaoke song: Pat Benatar's "Promises in the Dark."

What she's most excited for is simple: "Being stupid onstage, with music." While bringing an "Understated" comedy style to a Jam described as "Harmonious".

Grey Benton-Hart

This is a general Jam for anyone who is a BIPOC, over the age of 40, a woman, part of the LGBTQIA2S+ community; however, we also wanted to acknowledge that July is Disability Pride Month! Not everyone on our cast has a disability (visible or not) but, we do have some cast members who do identify as such. And for Grey, Disability Pride Month means "taking pride in the strength that I have regardless of what anyone thinks of me. I love who I am!"

Grey says that the most challenging thing about musical improv is "thinking of a rhyme fast enough!" But the best part? "When you create a really funny tune on the fly."

Grey's favorite musical star is Alex Brightman, favorite musical is Beetlejuice The Musical, and their music taste ranges from Metallica to metalcore. They play clarinet, saxophone, guitar, and ukulele, and if karaoke happens, you might hear Crazy by Patsy Cline.

Grey is looking forward to having fun with friends and creating laughs and memories. While showing off her energetic comedy style for a Jam that can only be described as "Wild"! Come see Grey and the rest of the cast at The Diversity Jam Jam!

🎭 Meet Lori Sharma!🎶

Lori says the biggest challenge of musical improv is transitioning from dialogue to song. But the best part? "Singing in rhyme on the spot."

Lori's favorite musical star is Dolly Parton, her favorite musical is W***y Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (original), and she loves the music of composer Ludovico Einaudi. And her karaoke song of choice? "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor.

And the thing she's most looking forward to for this show? A Hamilton parody song sketch that showcases her "Goofy" comedy style in this "Stellar" Jam.

Jessica Alonso

Jessica is bringing her love of musical theater and comedy to The Diversity Jam!

Her favorite musicals include West Side Story and In The Heights, and her favorite composer is Stephen Sondheim. And when asked if she plays any instruments, Jessica had an important question: "Is mayonnaise an instrument?" We're inclined to say that's a strong maybe. But a strong definite is that she plays flute, and her favorite song to play is "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion.

Her go-to karaoke song? Well, you oughta know. Like seriously "You Oughta Know" by Alanis Morissette.

🎶Meet Amanda Booth Amanda Booth

Amanda says the biggest challenge of musical improv is "thinking on your feet and being in tune with the music," but that's also part of what makes it so much fun. She's a fan of just about every musical you can think of, from Rent and Operation Mincemeat to Hadestown, The Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, Chicago, and The Book of Mormon. Ask her favorite composer and she'll tell you it's impossible to choose between Andrew Lloyd Webber and Stephen Sondheim.

Amanda plays guitar, drums, ukulele, harmonica...and, in her own words, "literally anything I want to take the time to learn." If karaoke is involved, you'll probably hear her singing "Safety Dance."

She's looking forward to meeting new people, doing more improv, and describes this jam with one word: Exciting!

ErikaDiva Hill

Diva says that the biggest challenge of musical improv is "on the spot lyrics fitting the music," but the best part is "seeing how creative everyone's mind works." And she's definitely looking forward to seeing if she can make it through the whole show without missing a beat.

A fan of Rent, Prince, Stevie Wonder, and Quincy Jones, Diva describes her musical taste as "polyjamorus" because picking just one genre is impossible. And her karaoke choices depend on her mood. It might be Bodies by Drowning Pool or Tyrone by Erykah Badu.

Her comedy style? Erratic.
This Jam? Unpredictable!
