Some mornings there are people in our free community makers garden at 5am.

Before the day gets going, before the heat, they are picking food. Feeding families. Adding to what they have. Filling the gap for those who have none.

Bill and Joanna Fowler lead this garden. Our makers and community make it real. Weeding, planting, building, composting, showing up season after season. That is how a vacant lot becomes a resource that feeds people. And if you are interested in helping, we have days to volunteer.

This started small last year, with help from our partners Roadstead Montessori Middle & High School and continuing for our second season i am proud to share that we are four times the size it was that first season and continuing to grow and expand.

There are still plenty of flowers too. Come cut some. Share a little joy with someone you love. If you are not sure how, we left instructions and scissors right there to get you started. Cutting them makes room for more to grow.

All of it grows from compost. Every fruit, vegetable and flower comes out of the soil we lay into the raised beds each year. So we partnered with Tidewater Compost , and you can now drop your kitchen scraps at our Norfolk location. They become more compost, for you and for us.

and thank you to Dwight from Sir Dumps A Lot for keeping the lawn and areas so nice as we make it harder and harder to mow quickly and easily. ❤️

We’re not just a woodshop, metal shop, laser cutters, 3D printers and a pottery studio. That’s just a part of what people learn, make and grow here together. Come join us. ❤️

This is what Made at 757 Makerspace looks like.

Custom laser cut sign. Restored cast iron bench. New wood slats. Built lamp post. One CAD file turned into a full Sesame Street inspired birthday backdrop.

Your idea deserves a real shop.

These eggs didn’t come from a store.

They came from our pottery studio and that’s just the start. At 757 Makerspace you can throw pottery, forge metal, build furniture, cut with lasers, design jewelry, sew, code robots, and more.

13 years ago today I pitched an idea.

A place where anyone could walk in with curiosity and leave having made something with their own hands. A community workshop. A place to learn, build, and belong.

I had no idea what it would become.
Looking at these early photos I see a rough space and a whole lot of belief that this thing was worth building. We figured it out together as we went.

What I’m most proud of isn’t the space. It’s the people.

The members who found their creative voice here for the first time. The makers who built businesses, launched products, and discovered skills they didn’t know they had. The ones who moved away and took the maker ethos with them into the world. You’re out there building things, teaching others, starting your own spaces. That’s the real impact.

And the ones still here. Still showing up. Still making things. You are this place.

This Friday at our Open House I’ll be sharing a slide deck and some never before seen photos and stories from the last 13 years. Come celebrate another month with this incredible community. I’d love to see you there.

13 years. Two locations. One community. Still growing.

Thank you for building this with me.

❤️ Beau

Patrick Mullins of builds his immersive theater productions out of his studio at . Each show grows a different team and a new layer of craft. Members, collaborators, artists. And new technology they learn, adapt, and build into the experience.

For “What Remains” at , that included spatial audio through headsets that guided you through the house. And parts of the set built here. Thom White , architect and member, designed and cut the pieces himself on our CNC. First time flying solo at this scale on a tool like this. The detail and craft in every piece shows.

Sold out. Every night.

If you haven’t seen it, tickets are still available through April 4. Link in the Hermitage/Rouge bio or find it at hermitagemuseum.org. Thursday nights start at $45.

The tools, the floor, the people. This is what the space makes possible. ❤️

Zak decided to machine his own guitar body. Starting by machining the clamps to hold it. Then he made the guitar. After that he was cutting boat seat upholstery with another member, swapping in a .official drag knife to do it.

All on the same table. All in the same afternoon.

That’s what a CNC does when you stop thinking of it just as a “wood router”.

What’s the one thing you’d build if equipment wasn’t the excuse anymore?

Better tools. Same maker.
