Here's an amazing article about using therapeutic music in the ICU. I used to play regularly in the ICU at DePaul Hospital, where it positively impacted patients, visitors and staff. I'd love to get back in the ICU at one of the local hospitals.

Today while playing at Sentara Norfolk General, one of the chaplains came to get me. She was working with a developmentally delayed adult women who was waiting for surgery transport who was terrified. The patient greeted me by saying, “I am being so brave” as she cried. She asked for “I Can Only Imagine” and sang along, then we moved to Jesus Loves Me and Disney music. She had colored this picture and added the inscription “To Kayryn. I loves you very much.” And then I cried. THIS is what I love to do!

I am thrilled to have been offered a one-month contract to provide live therapeutic harp music at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. I shall be on-site every Thursday in March from 8am-1pm providing music in 6 different public areas. May the music be a blessing to all!

Update 5/14/2023: My contract has been extended twice already and funding has been found to continue through June currently. God is good, and so many patients and staff have expressed thanks for the music!

In addition to playing in healthcare and senior facilities that I book on my own, I also partner with Tidewater Arts Outreach to provide healing harp music as part of their mission "to bring joy to older adults and those living in isolating circumstances and enhance their
well-being through creative engagement with the arts". It's a joy and a honor to serve alongside them!

I am excited to announce that starting Tuesday, June 15th I will begin providing therapeutic music on a regular basis at the Sentara Brock Cancer Center! I feel blessed to continue providing therapeutic music in the Tidewater Virginia area in a new way and at a brand-new facility :)
