Norfolk Collegiate’s Center for the Arts, named in honor of Peter Meredith, Sr., and Susan Meredith opened on March 1, 2013 to coincide with Norfolk Collegiate’s 65th Anniversary. The 26,000-square-foot, $8.5 million cultural arts center includes four classrooms, a chorus room, two seminar rooms, two galleries for exhibiting students’ work and a scene design shop. The facility’s centerpiece is its

425-seat professional theater, which also is available by lease to community organizations. Paneled with natural oak on all four sides, the Hackney Theater, named for Jo Melchor Hackney & John H. Hackney, Jr., includes professional sound and rigging systems and four-location lighting technology. The Franklin Lobby, also lined with natural oak, is also used for receptions.

Sunday, Dec. 14 at 3 p.m., Norfolk Collegiate Upper School students will take to the runway in the Hackney Theater for the Pass the Pink Fashion Show to raise funds in the name of cancer research. The show is open to the public. There is a suggested $10 donation at the door. All proceeds from the show will be given to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

We have a packed house this morning for a special presentation of HONK! by the Hurrah Players. Filling the Hackney Theater seats are Norfolk Collegiate Lower School students, joined by 200 friends from the West Ghent School, Ascension Preschool, First Presbyterian Preschool, Talbot Park Preschool, McDonald Montessori School and Trinity Lutheran School. There will be another performance this evening at 7 p.m. in the Hackney Theater. The show is open to the public, and tickets are $12.
