Norfolk Collegiate’s Center for the Arts, named in honor of Peter Meredith, Sr., and Susan Meredith opened on March 1, 2013 to coincide with Norfolk Collegiate’s 65th Anniversary. The 26,000-square-foot, $8.5 million cultural arts center includes four classrooms, a chorus room, two seminar rooms, two galleries for exhibiting students’ work and a scene design shop. The facility’s centerpiece is its

425-seat professional theater, which also is available by lease to community organizations. Paneled with natural oak on all four sides, the Hackney Theater, named for Jo Melchor Hackney & John H. Hackney, Jr., includes professional sound and rigging systems and four-location lighting technology. The Franklin Lobby, also lined with natural oak, is also used for receptions.
