The Chrysler Museum Glass Studio is a 7,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility designed to complement the world-class glass collection in the Museum. The Studio features a furnace capable of melting 560 pounds of glass, three glory holes for reheating glass objects as they are being formed, five annealing ovens that slowly cool molten glass to room temperature and support mold-cast glasswork a

nd fusing, and a flameworking table with space for eight artists to work on projects including beadmaking and sculpture using glass rods and tubes. Audio-visual equipment enhances guests' ability to see free glass demonstrations by our Studio Team, assistants, and artists-in-residence. Lawrence Calcagno (1913-1993) was a San Francisco-born Abstract Expressionist who studied under some of the most influential painters of his generation, including Mark Rothko, Richard Diebenkorn, and Ad Reinhardt. Openly gay at a time when homosexuality was criminalized, he navigated both artistic and social margins while developing a distinctive form of lyrical abstraction.

Our Visiting Artists week is just heating up! ๐Ÿ”ฅ Helen Lee and Ruth Tamura are here and we have two more days of free events you won't want to miss! ๐Ÿ™Œ

Helen Lee is an artist, designer, and educator whose work is held in the collections of the Corning Museum of Glass, the Minnesota Museum of American Art, and the Chrysler Museum.

Ruth Tamura co-founded the Pilchuck Glass School alongside Dale Chihuly in 1971 and was the first person at CCA to receive an MA in glass!
