My friend Kim Morin Weineck recently posed the question, what do you want your art to say? I have been stewing over this question for a while now, and have begun my work of figuring it out.

I love the look and feel of hand-built shapes - their organic asymmetry declaring that human hands and hearts were here! It takes more time and I’m starting to accept that’s the whole point. This is my escape from my dizzying schedules and endless care work, why would I dare rush?

The first stage of this piece was built coil by coil on my coffee table with Kim Morin Weineck’s art show on for company and inspiration. It was later carved and adorned at my dining table, with kids and dogs flitting about in the background, windows open wide. It’s a slow becoming…

It’s been a quiet winter at the studio and I’m itching to play with new ideas. Metal foil embossing has become a quick and rewarding craft that satisfies my need for play without the weeks-long time commitment often demanded by clay. I am paying extra attention to the musings of my heart and pushing back on the urgency to ‘make-for-the-holidays, the-market, the-customer.’ Less care for ‘what will people buy’ and more space for dreamwork. One of my favorite writers, , recently wrote, “sometimes you gotta make a big effort for beauty.” It’s a simple truth that shakes you awake and begs to ask what you can do with it. These rabbits are a start - find them and so much more at our community life raft, 🌷
