Running Girl is about joy and is appropriately displayed outside Grand Island's "Y". Artist Harold Linke (pronounced link) created the sculpture from metal tubing, bent to create the form of our character. He challenges you to contemplate, "When did you last feel that joyful?" From a North Platte installation day with Terry Malesky:
Since we start kind of in the middle of the story, Terry's talking about a conversation with her husband and sculpting partner, Joe. Initially, there may have been a slight difference of opinion about creating this sculpture. But Terry knew who to go to for advice.
